TEAMS: Virginia Tech Hokies, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Boston College Eagles, Wake Forest Demon Deacons
High FivesMike Glennon, N.C. State Forget how he played in the first two-plus quarters, Glennon exploded late to lead the Wolfpack to its greatest comeback ever in a 56-41 win over Maryland. Glennon passed for 306 yards and five scores, as State overcame 3rd-quarter deficit of 41-14.
David Wilson, Virginia Tech Wilson ran for 153 yards on 24 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, including a 38-yard dash, in helping the Hokies beat Virginia 38-0 in Charlottesville. It was his 10th 100-yard game of the season and eighth game in which he had at least one run of 33 or more yards.
Tom OBrien, N.C. State The Wolfpack head coach found a way to get his team to a bowl game and likely keep his job in a 56-41 victory over Maryland. OBriens team scored the final 42 points of the game, including 35 in the fourth quarter, in the programs greatest comeback ever.
Gio Bernard, North Carolina The redshirt freshman tailback set some impressive Carolina records after running for 165 yards in a 37-21 win over Duke. It was Bernards seventh 100-yard performance of the season, and he now has 1,222 yards, both UNC freshman records. His 13 rushing touchdowns are the most at UNC since 1992.
Terrance Parks, Florida State The senior safety was in on six tackles, including two for a loss of yardage, and also returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown in the Seminoles 21-7 victory at rival Florida. Parks score was key, as FSU managed just 95 yards of total offense.
Low FivesTevin Washington, Georgia Tech The Yellow Jackets quarterback completed just 3 of 10 pass attempts for 34 yards in a 31-17 home loss to rival Georgia. He had been throwing well coming into the game, and a crucial reason Tech didnt move the ball enough was it wasnt as balanced as it needed.
Jacory Harris, Miami The senior quarterback had one of the worst games of his career in his final appearance as a Hurricane. Harris completed 23 of 39 pass attempts for 245 yards but he was intercepted four times while tossing just one touchdown pass in a 24-17 home loss to Boston College. What an unfortunate end to his career.
Tom OBrien, N.C. State Yes, hes on this side, as well. The Wolfpack head coach likely will keep his job after N.C. State beat Maryland to become bowl eligible, but as much as he deserves credit for not losing his team with the Terps building a 41-14 lead, TOB should be criticized for the hole his team dug. How on earth, in the most important game of the season, and taking on nemesis Maryland, which has a history of spoiling things for NCSU, was the Pack not even close to ready to play? Basically, his job was saved because of the final 19 minutes of the last game of his fifth season. It shouldnt have come to that.
Wake Forest What was that? A 41-7 loss at home to Vanderbilt, and this after finishing tied for second in the Atlantic Division? Wake could have finished 7-5, but at 6-6, the Demon Deacons went just 1-3 outside the league.
The ACC In four key games against the SEC East, the weaker of the two SEC divisions, the ACC went 1-3 with the three ugly losses by a combined score of 106-37, and the lone victor, Florida State, managed to gain just 95 total yards of offense. Thats not exactly how the league will change reputation.
Player of the WeekLogan Thomas, Virginia Tech The 6-foot-6, 250-pound sophomore quarterback completed 13 of 21 pass attempts for 187 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in leading the Hokies to a 38-0 rout of Virginia on the road for to capture the Coastal Division title and earn a spot in the ACC championship game. It wasnt just his numbers, but his leadership and how his improvement this season has enabled the Hokies to vie for another ACC crown.
