Every young boy who grows up playing football dreams of one day playing college football; where people chant his name, and where he helps his team win the National Championship. For Amari Cooper, that dream has become a reality. What’s so impressive about Amari? Not only did he win a national title and break school records for touchdowns… he did it all as a freshman. In his freshman year, Cooper started 9 of 14 games as wide receiver for the Tide. Cooper, or as fans call him, “Coooooooop,” quickly became a hero on the field. Whenever AJ McCarron threw a ball in the air, Cooper was there to catch it, no matter how difficult the feat. Amari isn’t just great at catching, but he also has amazing speed; many times he would get a screen pass and easily outrun the defense for an easy touchdown. Against Tennessee, Cooper set a record of 162 yards on 7 receptions, a feat never accomplished by an Alabama freshman. Amari had his two best games against Tennessee and Texas A&M, showing both his coaches and America that he doesn’t fold under the pressure of big games. By the end of the season, Cooper had racked up more than 1,000 yards, breaking the previous record held by Julio Jones who now plays wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. Cooper also broke the record for most touchdowns at 11, which has been held by Al Lary since 1950. To say the least, Cooper was a dominant threat. He made clutch plays in many games that helped seal the win for the Tide. Although Cooper has been dealing with a strained foot for some of the offseason, that injury shouldn’t stop him from being a dominant threat on the offensive side of the ball again this year for the Tide. This season, look for Cooper to break his own records from last year. Cooper will be a big factor in wins for the Tide. If Amari can continue his dominance from last season, the offense for the Tide will be one of the greatest. With its strong running games and accurate passing games, the Tide will be rolling all season. Go Coooooooop!
