Although Jalston Fowler only touched the ball 4 times for 37 yards on Saturday, his dominance and strength reminded me of Mark Ingram. Many people are saying he reminds them of Eddie Lacy because of his speed, but to me, it’s not his speed that’s impressive, it’s how he hits the defenders and runs over them just like Ingram did when he wore the crimson and white. With that being said, let’s take a look at his past three years at Alabama: Freshman year (2010)- Jalston rushed 14 times for 111 yards, including a 36-yard touchdown. His best games were against Duke and Georgia State where he was able to rush for over 40 yards in those games behind running backs Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Eddie Lacy. Sophomore year (2011)-Fowler finished the season with 56 carries for 385 yards and 4 touchdowns. His best games of the 2011 season came during the Kent State, Ole Miss, and Georgia Southern games. His best game was against Ole Miss when he rushed for 125 yards on 9 carries showing his strength and agility. Junior year (2012) *redshirt*- Due to a knee injury, Fowler was only able to play in the first two games of the season against Michigan and Western Kentucky. In those two games, he was able to carry the ball 11 times for 87 yards before redshirting the rest of his junior year. Junior Year (2013) -Coming off the previous season with a knee injury, Jalston has shown some tremendous improvement. So far this season, he has 6 carries for 38 yards. During the A&M game, Jalston showed a side of him many people thought was impressive. He wasn’t light on his feet with many feet tricks like Lacy or Richardson; he was a truck, ramming people out of his way and gaining many yards with defenders trying to drag him down just like Ingram would do. In my opinion, I think Folwer is a great running back for the Tide. He is currently starting behind TJ Yeldon and Kenyan Drake who are both similar in running styles. Both Yeldon and Drake are quick and light on their feet while Jalston runs like a powerhouse. I think this trio can certainly help the Tide offensively to make it to Pasadena, California in January 2014. Who knows? Maybe Jalston Fowler is the special ingredient needed to help the Tide make history in a way never done in FCS history before: to win three straight national titles.
