Their ability to drag out and analyize instantly the unveiling of the coaches and media all-Big Ten teams on an annual basis. Ball named AFCA All-American again

MADISON, Wis. Those who labeled Wisconsin running back Montee Ball's season a failure after four weeks are certainly eating their share of crow now. Despite a rocky start, Ball was named on Wednesday to the 2012 American Football Coaches Association All-America team. He is the only Big Ten player represented on the list and becomes the first Wisconsin player to earn AFCA All...

Wisconsin's Ball leads all-Big Ten selections

Career touchdown leader Montee Ball of Wisconsin was selected the Big Ten's top running back for the second straight year and was a first-team all-conference pick by both the coaches and media. The announcement Monday came two days after he became the NCAA's all-time leader in touchdowns. He set the record with his 79th TD when he scored on a 17-yard run Saturday against...

Ball named 1st team All-American

The first of the countless All-American teams out there came down today as the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) named their All-American's. On that list was one Montee Ball, who became the only Badger in history to be named a 1st team All-American in back-to-back seasons by the AFCA.  Ball was also the only offensive player on the team to return from the 2011...

Can Badgers leave their baggage behind?

MADISON, Wis. When the pulse of a town and ultimately one's job security hinges on the outcome of football games each Saturday in the fall, a college coach will delve to great depths to summon an answer for a loss. Sometimes, he may even turn to a higher power. Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema has endured a season unlike any in his seven-year tenure with the Badgers. Six new assistant...

Gophers offense struggles mightily vs. MSU

MINNEAPOLIS Already bowl eligible, the University of Minnesota football team had less on the line than the visiting Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. MSU came to TCF Bank Stadium with a 5-6 record, needing one more win to become bowl eligible. The Spartans took care of business, beating the Gophers26-10. Minnesota's loss was overshadowed by yet another seizure by head coach...

Ball, Burkhead should be at best in B10 title game

Two of the Big Ten's best running backs will be on the field when Wisconsin and No. 14 Nebraska meet in Saturday night's conference championship game. Wisconsin's Montee Ball has been at his best lately after a slow start. Nebraska's Rex Burkhead is running strong after missing a month with an aggravated knee sprain. The two have long admired and learned from each...

Line's resurgence justifies early-season change

MADISON, Wis. Reflections 80 days after Wisconsins worst performance of the football season come with the kind of blunt, honest criticism members of the teams offensive line couldnt diagnose when they were too close to the situation. Back on Sept. 8, they had no answers. Wisconsin lost a stunning 10-7 decision at Oregon State that day, and the Badgers flaws were obvious. A program...

Gophers' offense left searching for answers

MINNEAPOLIS Turnovers and a lack of offense plagued the University of Minnesota football team in Saturday's 26-10 loss to Michigan State in the regular-season finale. The Gophers held a brief one-point lead in the first half but were outscored 13-3 after halftime as they fell to 6-6 on the season. Here are the grades for Minnesota's lackluster performance against the Spartans...

Badgers, No. 14 Huskers know all about close games

The courses for the Big Ten championship game opponents were set when they met in late September. Nebraska came back from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit to beat Wisconsin 30-27 in the conference opener. The 14th-ranked Cornhuskers continued to win close games. The Badgers kept losing them. Another tight game is expected when Nebraska (10-2, 7-1 Big Ten) and Wisconsin (7-5,...

2012 Big Ten Championship: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wisconsin Badgers Preview & Prediction

On Saturday night, the Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-2) and the Wisconsin Badgers (7-5) will face off in the second Big Ten Championship Game. While the game features last year’s champion, Wisconsin, this season’s championship has a much different feel then the Wisconsin-Michigan State classic from 2011, and the two teams’ paths to this game couldn’t be much different. Nebraska Cornhuskers...

Sexy Six Week 14: You Hear That? K.M’s Coming (Bryan: 44-33-1, $1,090, K.M: 42-35-1, -$550, HH: 24-14 $620)

Well well well what do you know? I was concerned about K.M Venne. Our chance at going back to back on the three-feature profit was in danger with his Week 12 performance. It looked like a long shot he’d be able to get it back. Nonetheless week 13 rolls around and K.M drops a +480 week to get himself back to a -550 and now week 14 becomes a must have week for our resident Virginia...

Nebraska-Wisconsin Preview

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema understands a lot of people believe his Badgers don't deserve to be playing in the Big Ten championship game. Asked if he's insulted by the sentiment, he says he's not. ''I appreciate the question and understand it totally,'' he said Sunday. ''I think there are 10 teams out there in the Big Ten that would love to...
