(Eds: APNewsNow.) By KURT VOIGT AP Sports Writer Ross Rasner noticed a startling change early in preseason camp. The Arkansas safety was accustomed to serving as a defense in name only during the skeleton scrimmage portion of practice, a time when the offense had its way under former coach Bobby Petrino. Then, one night during an early August practice, Rasner's instincts took over and he knocked the ball away from a receiver. Afterward, he paused and waited for criticism he had become used to in his three seasons under Petrino. All he heard were cheers of support. Times have changed around Arkansas under new coach John L. Smith and defensive coordinator Paul Haynes. The most telling difference has been in practices, where defensive players are now encouraged to hold their own with the Razorbacks' high-powered offense.

Arkansas' hopes remain high despite wild offseason

Even without former coach Bobby Petrino, expectations haven't changed this season at Arkansas. The Razorbacks, under new coach John L. Smith following Petrino's firing in April, have their eyes set on competing for the school's first Southeastern Conference championship since entering the league in 1992. Arkansas, which is 21-5 over the last two seasons, is led by a...

Meeting of the Minds: Bobby Petrino's comeback

I took my mistress for a ride on my hog and all I got was this lousy neck brace. Bobby Petrino went on ESPN last week for an interview in which the disgraced ex-Arkansas coach vowed that he had seen the light after a sex scandal forced him out of Fayetteville. Believe him or not, Petrino was clearly stumping to get back into coaching sooner than later...

Months after being fired Bobby Petrino hopes to have another chance to coach

ESPN’s Joe Schad got the first interview with Bobby Petrino since he lost as job as head coach of the Arkansas Razobacks after getting into a motorcycle accident carrying his mistress and new hire on the back. The article is strange one just because it’s weird reading so much remorse and confusion from ego-of-all-egos Petrino. The most alarming thing, though, is that appears...

Arkansas fills job of Petrino's fired mistress

Arkansas has hired former Washington and USC defensive coordinator Nick Holt to handle its on-campus recruiting, a job formerly handled by the now-fired mistress of ex-coach Bobby Petrino. Coach John L. Smith announced the hire on Wednesday. Holt was the defensive coordinator at Washington from 2009-11 and at Southern California from 2006-08; from 2001-03, he was the linebackers...
