The University of Iowa women's basketball team opens Big Ten play Friday against the Northwestern Wildcats. Friday's game on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena is set for 6 p.m.
There is sure to be many purple-clad fans in Houston for the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, but Northwestern is playing Texas A&M in Houston—just 90 miles from College Station. NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald is preparing his team for a road-like atmosphere at Reliant Stadium. The Wildcats look to embrace the challenge being the “visitors,” just as they did in Nebraska.
Wherever the Wildcats have gone in Houston during the bowl week, the Northwestern football program’s 63-year bowl drought has gone with them. The drought is symbolized in a small stuffed animal monkey, given by Pat Fitzgerald. The Wildcats hope they can finally get the monkey off their back with a win in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.
With the Wildcats making Houston their home for the week, NU head coach Pat Fitzgerald is taking advantage of the opportunity by hosting recruits at the team's bowl practices. Northwestern put the finishing touches on its preparations for the 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas Friday, by participating in the bowl luncheon and news conference.
