Jake Ryan and Devin Stark connected for three touchdowns and Austin Peay defeated Eastern Kentucky 23-17 on Saturday, in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.
The last time Eastern Kentucky came to Clarksville, the Governors snapped a 22-game losing streak to the Colonels. This time a 10-game skid dating to last season came to an end thanks to the running of Ryan White and a strong defensive effort.
White had 132 yards on 27 carries, helping the Governors (1-2) maintain possession for almost 13 more minutes than the Colonels (36:17-23:43).
Meanwhile, the Governors' defense kept pressure on the Eastern Kentucky (1-3) quarterbacks, tallying four sacks.
Eastern Kentucky came in leading the Football Championship Subdivision in tackles for loss per game (12), but it was Austin Peay which dominated in that category, 7-4, with Darric Dillard accounting for two tackles for loss.
