I love this time of year. March Madness is in full effect and I certainly have the, umm… “madness”. I, personally, cannot get enough of it. But what makes this time of year even more compelling from a sports fan’s point of view is the emergence of spring football. I, for one, am the type of sports fan that can’t digest enough on my favorite team, in any sport.  Here at Know It All Football, we’re keeping tabs on your favorite gridiron gang so you don’t have to. With the success of their hoops team this season, it seems only fitting that in part 2 of our B1G spring preview, we take a look at the Indiana Hoosiers. INDIANA Camp Opens: March 2nd Spring Game: April 13th It’s been baby steps for Indiana coach Kevin Wilson and his staff so far but there is no doubt everyone else in the B1G is starting to take notice. Wilson took his team from one win in his first season to four wins last year. While a four-win season may not seem like a success to most, those are the types of baby steps needed to turn around a program that has been down as long as Indiana. How’s this for progress? Indiana led the B1G in offense last season (19th nationally) at 311.2 yds per game, despite of losing their starting quarterback Tre Roberson in the 2nd game of the season. Wilson and his staff also ushered in one of Indiana’s best recruiting classes of the last decade this off-season. It would be no surprise at all to see Indiana take another step in the right direction in 2013 and make only their 2nd bowl game in the last 20 years. While most people keeping an eye on this program will drool over the quarterback depth Indiana has, which was built out of necessity when Roberson went down last season, I personally want to see if Wilson can fix the defense. Who is taking snaps under center this fall will be the talk of their spring camp with the return of three potential starters in Roberson, Cameron Coffman, and Nate Sudfeld, but what I want to know is how Indiana has planned to stop anyone. It starts up front — on the D-line and in the middle — and the Hoosiers are still lacking any sort of depth or the leadership needed for B1G play. Indiana gave up more yards on the ground than any other B1G team last season (Husker fans are checking that stat). The secondary looks to be the strength and something to rely on this coming season but it’s hard to rely on them if no one needs to pass the ball against you. Like Illinois (you can read my spring preview of them here), Indiana is trying for the quick fix and has relied heavily on junior college transfers this recruiting season. The hope is that they can make instant impacts on this team and help get them over the hump. But unlike the Illini, Indiana has a monster offense to hang its hat on going into 2013 and that makes them potentially dangerous to anyone in their path.
