Found October 03, 2013 on Madtown Badgers:
This one has been long rumored, but after getting burned by the Donnell Vercher deal last season the Badgers learned the JUCO lesson and took their time this time around, but on Thursday it became official as Kenosha, WI native Joe Keels officially committed to the Badgers.  Not only is Keels a Wisconsin native, but he's also Melvin Gordon's cousin and played for Kenosha Bradford before taking off for Highland (Kan.) Community College.  The four-star prospect is the 15th member of the Badgers 2014 class at this point in time and his combination of size (6'4" and 275 lbs.) and speed could make him a candidate to play multiple roles for UW, according to Evan Flood of Badger 247 (our official recruiting partners).  "Even though it was a late offer to Keels, Wisconsin has been on the four-star defensive tackle for awhile and he addresses an immediate need to the defensive line that will be rather depleted at the end of the season," said 247sports B...

Wisconsin Football: Dual-threat quarterback Austin Kafentzis verbally commits

He may not be a household name right now, but 2015 recruit and dual-threat quarterback Austin Kafentzis should have Wisconsin football fans jumping around like it’s the end of the third quarter at Camp Randall. After a campus visit and meeting with first year head coach Gary Andersen, Kafentzis verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin. Badger football fans may be asking...

Wisconsin's Gordon says he's fine after knee scare

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By GENARO C. ARMAS AP Sports Writer Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon walked the sideline with his typical gait, as if he were taking a breather following another long touchdown. The Big Ten's leading rusher looked this week like he was over an apparent left knee injury that came from a hit last week against Ohio State, and that he'd be ready to...

Badgers players get heads shaved to support cancer research

MADISON, Wis. -- In an unofficial poll of Wisconsin football players, Badgers linebacker Ethan Armstrong would likely finish second in the voting for best movie-star looks (behind quarterback Joel Stave and his flowing blonde mane, of course). One of the defining characteristics of Armstrong's appearance has been his long hair, which he'd spent more than a year growing out...

Wisconsin Football: Bye week rooting interest

Ohio State faces a big challenge this week against Northwestern. Following last week’s close loss against Ohio State, the Wisconsin Badgers will spend this Saturday idle for the first of their two bye weeks. While traditional coachspeak will tell you that Wisconsin is just looking ahead to next week, just needs to focus on playing good football, etc., the Badgers do have some...

Position change benefiting both Warren Herring, Badgers

MADISON, Wis. -- They have not developed a clever moniker. No "Smash and Dash" or "Thunder and Lightning." Nose guards don't garner much publicity anyway, so Wisconsin's Beau Allen and Warren Herring are fine keeping it that way. "We'll talk about it," Herring said. "I don't know. I don't have a nickname yet." What they...

Checking in on the Wisconsin Badgers past opponents and a bowl projection

With the Wisconsin Badgers on a bye week it seems appropriate to reflect back on the first portion of the season. As the old adage goes, “you don’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been.” Here’s a look at each of the Badgers first five opponents and a projection of what bowl game they could end up in. 1.) UMass (0-4) Result vs. Wisconsin Badgers:...

Will the Penn State prove the naysayers wrong this season?

The Wisconsin Badgers, as voted upon by the B1G coaches, were chosen as the preseason favorite for the inaugural B1G hockey conference. Not much of surprise, since the Badgers return nine seniors and seven juniors after reaching the NCAA tournament last year. The Minnesota Gophers were voted to finish second, with Michigan slotted for third, Michigan State and Ohio State projected...

Keels' Patience Pays Off

With the opportunity to possibly play in the Big Ten with his cousin, Melvin Gordon, Highland (KS) Community College defensive end Joe Keels turned down some top schools in order to commit to Wisconsin.

'14 NFL Draft Top 100, 51-75

Here's a look at 51-75 of the 2014 NFL Draft Top 100. That includes Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.

Draft analysts differ on potential of Abbrederis, Borland, Gordon

The more Melvin Gordon, Jared Abbrederis and Chris Borland sparkle on the football field on Saturdays, the more each Wisconsin player's NFL Draft stock appears to rise. Three months remain in the season, and still four months loom after that for combines and interviews to determine draft placements. By no means do judgments in early October stick until the May draft. These decisions...
