IRVING - While Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays for football fans, the players aren't as fortunate. Instead of sitting around a television and eating as much turkey as possible, Cowboys players are forced to provide the entertainment, every year. This means missing out on the featured meal with family and friends and beating up their bodies for the second time in four days. But many players don't seem to mind. Cowboys linebacker Bruce Carter, safety Abram Elam and kicker Dan Bailey are focused on trying to get a victory first and eating a big meal later. And all three declared that they would not be participating in any of the cooking."It's definitely going to be a fun experience," Bailey said. "I'm looking forward to it for sure. You always grow up watching the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. It'll be kind of cool to be a part of that now." For Bailey and Carter, it's their first time playing on Thanksgiving. Elam, on the other hand, will be suiting up for his third time. The safety said Tuesday that his most memorable Thanksgiving was his first one as an NFL player, a 38-10 Cowboys win over Tampa Bay at Texas Stadium in 2006."We had a big win and it was a good feeling to be able to play football on Thanksgiving," Elam said. "I just love the Thanksgiving spirit, having everybody there. There's a lot to be thankful for."Regarding the food, it's no secret that NFL players like to eat, and each has their own favorite dish."For dessert I like red velvet cake," Carter said. "And I would say my favorite dinner choice would be homemade stuffing." Bailey, who will celebrate the holiday with his family and a traditional dinner on Friday, will just be happy to get his hands on a few leftover turkey sandwiches."What we used to do is we would eat semi-early and then watch a little football, take a nap and then the best part I always like about Thanksgiving was the turkey sandwiches with the leftover turkey," he said. "The turkey sandwiches always seem to taste better than the actual meal." --Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
