When we broke the story of Johnny Manziel getting kicked out of the Manning Passing Academy this summer, some Aggies assumed we had an anti-Johnny Football agenda.  Nope. Just an anti-BS agenda. When the public was misled about why he was sent home, we busted out the can of truth. Alas, that story seemed to carry momentum to the point where talking Johnny Manziel has become like one of those cartoon snowballs running down a hill. No matter what he does, somebody’s got something to say about it. And though it will come as a surprise to some, we actually have Johnny’s back when one of those comments happens to be completely idiotic. And so far, no one’s come close to Barry Switzer in that regard. Switzer called out Manziel’s on-field taunting antics against Rice in the harshest terms on Wednesday, telling ESPN Radio: For him to act so arrogant,€“ I wanted to jerk his face mask and I wanted to grab him. Of course you get fired for that now; in the old days you could get away with that. It’s the world we live in. It’s a misplaced value system. When I see this happen I wonder where the core value system comes from, if he has a core value system. This young man needs a damn hell of a lot of development. Whoa, whoa, whoa, timeout. BARRY SWITZER IS TALKING ABOUT MISPLACED VALUES? For those of you who missed the ’80s, here’s a short primer: - Switzer’s own value system was shaped by a bootlegging father. - The SEC — the government one, not the college football one — arraigned him on charges of insider trading in 1983, though the case was dropped by a judge for a lack of evidence. Hmm, kind of like the lack of evidence against Manziel in his autographs-for-cash case? (Investigators: We know something happened here. But I’ll be damned if we can actually prove it). - His quarterback, Charles Thompson — the most recognizable player on the team — was arrested for selling cocaine to undercover FBI agents and pictured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in handcuffs in early 1989. Two other teammates on the ’88 Sooners were convicted for gang-raping a fellow student, and in the most absurd scenario of all, Sooners defensive back Jerry Parks (non-fatally) shot offensive lineman Zarak Peters after an argument. Again, A GUY SHOT HIS OWN TEAMMATE. Eventually all of those incidents piled together, as well as NCAA probation, led to Switzer’s resignation. - Remember Stanley Wilson, the Bengals running back who went on a coke binge the night before the Super Bowl? Yup, former Switzer player at OU. - OK, so that stuff is about off-the-field behavior. Switzer was criticizing the way Manziel was behaving on the field. Maybe this isn’t the pot calling the kettle black. Surely Switzer would never recruit a brash, punk-ass player known for taunting everyone he encountered.     Oh. How ’bout that value system, Barry!
