Top-ranked LSU is 13-0 and the SEC champion because Les Miles and his staff have recruited some of the best players in the nation.
And they do this every year.
Heck, LSU already has a verbal commitment from the top quarterback prospect in Gunner Keil.
So much like yesterday's top five players from Alabama, it's equally as tough to pare down LSU to its best five.
Tyrann Mathieu, DB
There's not a college football fan in the nation who hasn't heard of Tyrann Mathieu, and there are millions of fringe fans who have heard of him by his nickname ... Honey Badger.
LSU fans love the guy, and almost everyone else seems to despise him. He does play with a chip on his shoulder and he will jaw with opponents.
But let's not overlook his talent.
Mathieu is a small guy but he loves to hit. He can also cover a team's best receiver or blitz off the corner and cause havoc in the backfield.
BEST OF MAXIM
Harvey Updyke, the Alabama fan accused of poisoning the oak trees on Auburn's campus, was spotted on Bourbon Street on Sunday night.
Beware Les Miles and all the LSU Tigers supporters in New Orleans, the next scariest sports fan in history is in town. Hide yo kids, hide yo mascots and school symbols. [AL].
While most of us are eagerly awaiting the most important bowl game of the year – the GoDaddy.com Bowl, obviously – some people are still apparently hung up on that BCS Championship Game that is taking place on Monday night in New Orleans. I mean, I guess if you’re into things like the No. 1 and 2 teams in the country playing each other to determine the season’s ultimate...
LSU's affable coach spent some time with the media Friday as part of the buildup to the BCS National Championship Game.
The face (and hair?) of Alabama football, outside of Nick Saban and the actual team, watches as Les Miles tells the press how he will somehow pull off a chaotic BCS National Championship victory next week. The real question, why is Paul Finebaum wearing a LSU colored sweater? I can only presume it has a picture of Harvey Updyke Jr. on the front and the words "Roll Damn Tide...
Surrounded by the sound of jazz bands in street parades, bars, restaurants, crazed fans and where the smell of Cajun food wafts through Bourbon Street, Tyrann Mathieu, who has tenderly become known as the “Honey Badger,” returns back to his native town. Born and raised in New Orleans, he has a chance to help lead No. 1 LSU to a win against Alabama in Monday night’s Allstate...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP National Writer Tyrann Mathieu signed up for Twitter at the urging of a teammate.
It didn't take long for the LSU star to realize the benefits - and pitfalls - of social media.
When Mathieu wrote a trash-talking tweet to a Florida player, the mainstream media quickly picked up on it. When he went on Twitter...

Nick Saban's boys, Alabama, and Les Miles' boys, LSU, will play on Monday for the BCS championship in a much-anticipated rematch of the overtime slugfest held in Tuscaloosa. The game will be broadcast at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Monday.
Tyrann Mathieu's preparation for Monday night's BCS National Championship has been a little unconventional. In addition to sharpening his on-field skills and watching film of Alabama, he's also spent a little time looking up the names of the mothers of Alabama players.
And he plans to use them in abundance.
Mathieu, aka the Honey Badger, is not only one of the biggest...
Brent Musburger was oddly enamored with LSU safety Tyrann Mathieu's nom de guerre, uttering it a mystifying 14 times during tonight's broadcast of the BCS title game on ESPN. (He had the over.) Here are all of Brent's "Honey Badgers" for your.. enjoyment? <a href="http://deadspin.com/5874677/chronicling-brent-musburgers...

Alabama certainly played the better overall football early in the game. On special teams they did something that few teams have done much of all season against LSU.
On that punt return alone, LSU allowed EIGHT TIMES...
