You heard it here first, that BYU would beat the Longhorns. You probably didn't believe it, because I know I wasn't fully convinced. It happened, and it happened in record-setting, embarrassing fashion. The kind of fashion like parachute pants, someone should be fired for wearing them. Someone was fired, Texas fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was fired after he couldn’t stop four plays BYU ran over and over  that resulted in 550 yards of offense in Texas’ 40-21 loss to BYUSophomore Cougars quarterback Taysom Hill had a record-setting day against Texas en route to the upset victory. He rushed for 259 yards against the Horns and scored three times, showing a great command of BYU’s new read option offense. The Longhorns' defense, thought by some to be one of the quickest and most talented in the big 12 was schooled by BYULonghorns QB David Ash tried valiantly to erase the score, finding Mike Davis  for two touchdown passes, Even though he was 24-44 for 313 yards, Ash and company couldn't get on the field long enough to counter BYU’s rushing attack. Texas had 445 total offensive yards in the loss. Texas' hopes to win the Big 12 are all but an afterthought as they try to regroup against the 2-0 Ole Miss Rebels, an SEC school, who should give Texas a challenge. Mack Brown is most certainly on the hot seat after this game, and how he gets his team ready to respond on Saturday will be interesting.Texas needs to get its act together, the team has exactly one month before they meet Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout in Dallas tx on oct 12th. Oklahoma will probably till be undefeated, and if Texas has no more losses (doubtful) then that game could still be meaningful. Texas has dropped blowouts to Oklahoma the past two years, and after last weeks debacle, another lop sided loss could could cost Mack Brown his job before the Horns play the Sooners. One has to think Brown and the Longhorns have to win out for him to have any chance of remaining employed. Texas again has one of the most talented teams in the Big 12 but continues to do less with more than almost any other team in college football. Longhorn fans -- I hope it gets better for you, but my fear is that it's going to be a long rest of the season.
