Had it not been for back injuries, Mets fans may not have been clamouring for Daniel Murphy or Nick Evans but instead it could have been Shawn Bowman. Entering the 2005 season Bowman was the Mets top third base prospect ( seventh overall), unlike most recent infield prospects Bowman was a stellar defensive player with a decent bat. In fact a few years ago it was conceivable that if David Wright continued to have throwing errors it would be Bowman who pushed him to first base. But that was before Bowman lost two seasons to a debilitating back injury. The 23 y/o returned this year and in 55 games between Port St. Lucie and Binghamton he hit .290.
