Florida Atlantic head football coach Carl Pelini resigned on Wednesday in a move that came completely out of nowhere. Defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis has also stepped down. ESPN is reporting that Pelini and Rekstis were at a recent social even “where pot was used.” So that would make complete sense that the university wants to dump them both immediately. Florida Atlantic has a press conference scheduled for Wednesday afternoon where we will learn more about the situation. Pelini took over as the head coach of the Owls in 2012 and has a 5-15 record in his time at the school. FAU is 2-6 so far this season, with a 1-4 record in Conference USA. He is the older brother of Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini. Pelini’s annual salary is listed at $375,000.
