Charlie Strong’s first year as the head coach for the University of Louisville in 2010 was also the first year with the expanded seating at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The construction started in 2008 and on Sept. 4, 2010 was the first Louisville home game in the revamped stadium that now holds 55,000.
The Louisville football program has seen quite a bit of growth over the years. With the move to the ACC in 2014, the program will take another huge leap. The majority of the other football stadiums in the ACC hold more than 55,000 and have some of the best atmospheres in college football.
During yesterday’s press conference, Charlie Strong mentioned that going forward; he hopes to see the stadium expanded once again have seats added to the north end zone, which is currently open.
