One of the most important aspects of playing college fantasy football is developing a strategy. One such strategy is the idea of imploring a quarterback platoon system. In this system an owner will draft 2 quarterbacks after the first five rounds and play the best match up each week of the season. The benefit of this strategy is that an owner is not forced to burn an early draft pick on a QB, and can load up his roster with high scoring running backs and wide receivers in the first part of a draft. Two quarterbacks who fit nicely into a weekly rotation for 2013 are Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater and Arizona State’s Taylor Kelly. Here is a breakdown of how these two could possibly be used on a week-by-week basis.Week One- Bridgewater vs. OhioThis is an easy call as Kelly has a bye in Week One. The match up for Teddy is very appealing against Ohio. The Louisville offense should be humming in this one.Week Two- Kelly vs. Sacramento StateBoth QB’s play cupcakes this week, but we will ride with Kelly here. It will be the first game for the Sun Devils and a nice way to get Kelly and the offense rolling.Week Three- Bridgewater vs. KentuckyBridgewater is the play here with Kelly facing a tough Wisconsin pass defense. The Louisville passing game could find good success against a Kentucky defense that is still searching for playmakers.Week Four- Bridgewater vs. Florida InternationalTeddy could light up the sky in this contest. The FIU pass defense ranked 96th in the country in 2012. Look for some gaudy stats from Bridgewater this week.Week Five- Kelly vs. USCBridgewater is off this week so Kelly is the play. He could find good success against a Trojans defense whose bark can be worst than their bite. This could be a statement game for Kelly and the Sun Devils offense.Week Six- Bridgewater vs. TempleThe is a no-brainer as Bridgewater faces a Temple defense that ranked 90th in total defense last season and Kelly faces a nasty Notre Dame defense that ranked 7th in the country last fall. Look for Teddy to make life very hard on the Owls defense and have fantasy owners smiling.Week Seven- Kelly vs. ColoradoFantasy owners should be licking their chops for this game, as Kelly could shred a weak Colorado defense that ranked 97th in the nation last season. Thomas should have no problem picking up a bunch of yards and scores in this PAC 12 beat down.Week Eight- Kelly vs. WashingtonKelly gets the nod here in a decent match up against Washington. The Washington defense may have trouble stopping the Arizona State offense, so Thomas could be a good option this week.Week Nine- Bridgewater vs. South FloridaWith Kelly on bye this week, Bridgewater is the only game in town. Luckily, Bridgewater gets to line up against a sub-par USF defense that ranked 88th in the country in pass defense last fall. Look for Bridgewater to face little resistance in posting quality numbers in Week nine.Week Ten- Kelly vs. Washington StateIt’s Kelly all the way this week as Louisville has the week off and Kelly has a juicy match up against Washington State. The Wazzu pass defense was abysmal in 2012, ranking 98th in the nation. Florence and the Baylor offense could put up a ton of points and yards in this one.Week Eleven- Kelly vs. UtahWith Bridgewater facing a solid UCONN defense, the choice of Kelly was an easy one here. The Utes defense is nothing special and could have their hands full with Kelly and all his weapons. Expect Kelly to post solid numbers in Week Eleven.Week Twelve- Bridgewater vs. HoustonBridgewater has a dream match up against a porous Houston pass defense that ranked 115th in the country in 2012. There could be plenty of wide-open targets for Teddy to choose from in this contest. This could be the highest scoring American Athletic game of the year and Bridgewater should have a big hand in all the fun.Week Thirteen- Kelly vs. UCLAKelly is the call, as he will be facing a suspect UCLA secondary. This game could be very high scoring with both clubs possessing potentially potent offenses. Look for Kelly to light up the scoreboard in an old school PAC 12 slugfest.Week Fourteen- Kelly vs. ArizonaKelly has another spectacular match up on paper against archrival Arizona. The Cats were atrocious last year stopping the pass, ranking 117th in the nation. Look for plenty of fantasy points to be scored in the desert and Kelly to account for a bunch of them. He could be a great starting option for Championship week.If you are risk averse as a drafter, this strategy of rotating two quarterbacks just might be right up your alley. I only looked at these two players, but obviously this can be used on many different signal callers this year. The risk/reward equation of this draft strategy is very high so be prepared for some bumps in the road, but don’t lose faith as it could lead you to the prize in the end.
