College football head coaches with the most bowl wins

Now a controversial figure, Paterno coached 46 seasons at Penn State from 1966-2011. He won two National Championships and finished ranked in the top five in the AP Poll 13 times.

Bowden coached 40 seasons between West Virginia and Florida State. He won two National Championships at Florida State and had a career .740 winning percentage.

Bryant coached 38 seasons between Maryland, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Alabama. He's best remembered for his 25 seasons with the Crimson Tide, where he had an .824 winning percentage and won five National Championships.

Brown coached 29 seasons between Tulane, North Carolina and Texas. He won the National Championship with the Longhorns in 2005.

Holtz coached 33 seasons for six different schools: William & Mary, N.C. State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He had his most success at Notre Dame, with a .765 winning percentage, one National Championship and two No. 2 finishes.

Remarkably, Osborne made a bowl game in all 25 of his seasons at Nebraska. He has a career .836 winning percentage and won back-to-back National Championships in 1994 and 1995.

Beamer spent 29 seasons at Virginia Tech, finishing his career after the 2015 season with a .662 winning percentage. His best finish was No. 2 in 1999.

Spurrier coached 26 seasons in college between Duke, Florida and South Carolina. He led his alma mater, Florida, to the National Championship in 1996.

James coached 22 seasons between Kent State and Washington. The Huskies were co-National Champs in 1991 and also finished ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll in 1984.

Widely considered the best active coach and perhaps the best college coach of all time, Saban has won five National Championships and is going for No. 6 this season. He's in his 21st season in college between four schools: Toledo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama.

Vaught coached at Ole Miss from 1947-1973, finishing his 25-year coaching career with a .745 winning percentage. His teams never finished first in the AP Poll but did finish No. 2 in back-to-back seasons in 1959-1960.

Now the athletic director at Wisconsin, Alvarez was the full-time coach of the Badgers for 16 seasons and also coached bowl games in 2012 and 2014.

Dodd coached 22 seasons at Georgia Tech, with a .713 career winning percentage. His best finish in the AP Poll was No. 2 in 1952.

Majors coached 29 seasons at three schools. He started his career at Iowa State before going on to Pitt, Tennessee and back to Pitt. Majors won the National Championship at Pitt in 1976.

Meyer is going for his fourth National Championship this season. Ohio State is his fourth school. He started his coaching career at Bowling Green before going on to Utah and Florida.

Patterson is in his 17th season at TCU. His best finish in the AP Poll was No. 2 in 2010.

Richt coached 15 seasons at Georgia before getting fired at the end of last season. He went 8-4 this season at Miami, his alma mater.

Whittingham is in his 13th season at Utah and has an impressive 9-1 record in bowl games. His best finish in the AP Poll was No. 2 in 2008.

Donahue coached 20 seasons at UCLA and had an 8-4-1 bowl record. The Bruins' best finish in the AP Poll with Donahue at the helm was No. 6 in 1988.

Dooley coached at Georgia for 25 seasons, finishing his career with a .715 winning percentage. The Bulldogs won the National Championship under Dooley in 1980.

Fulmer had a strong 17-year run at Tennessee, winning the National Championship in 1998. He had two more top five finishes.

Miles coached at Oklahoma State for four season before moving on to LSU in 2005. He won the National Championship in 2007 and had two additional top three finishes before getting fired midway through the 2016 season.

O'Brien coached 10 seasons at Boston College and six years at N.C. State, with a career .590 winning percentage.

Robinson coached 12 years at USC over two stints, finishing second in the AP Poll three times in his first four seasons. He also coached at UNLV for six seasons.

Royal spent two seasons at Mississippi State and one season at Washington before getting the Texas job. Over 20 seasons with the Longhorns, he had a .774 winning percentage and won two National Championships.

Sherrill spent his 26-year college head coaching career at four schools: Washington State, Pitt, Texas A&M and Mississippi State. He had a .595 winning percentage for his career.

Stoops won the National Championship in his second year at Oklahoma in 2000. Over his 18 years at the school, he has a great .797 winning percentage.

Switzer coached at Oklahoma for 16 seasons before eventually getting hired by the Dallas Cowboys. He won three National Championships with the Sooners and finished in the top 10 in 12 of his 16 seasons, including each of his first eight seasons.
