My predictions were horrendous!
The Vandy/South Carolina game was close, while Tennessee had Florida and Georgia on the ropes at times. Do you need anymore excuses?
Sweetheart claims no responsibility for these picks. My total record, all articles included, is 5-6 for the season.
One date has stuck in my mind before the season started - October 6th. There are many make or break games on that Saturday. Two are from our initial upset article - N.C. State surprises Florida State and LSU falls deep in "The Swamp" against Florida.
Notre Dame vs. Miami, FL
The Canes have given up many points this season, but the offense has averaged over 40 points a game in four wins. It's just the opposite for Notre Dame who doesn't score many points while shutting down opposing offenses.
Does speed cure everything? Miami's QB Stephen Morris threw for more than 400 yards against Georgia Tech and over 500 yards against N.C. State. Wideouts Rashawn Scott and Phillip Dorsett can burn up the field. I don't think NDs two QB system will keep up with the Canes' speed. Miami will leave Chicago with a 31-20 victory over "The Fighting Irish".
Georgia vs. South Carolina
The Dawgs' running backs looked excellent against the Vols. Gurley and Marshall will not be able to run between the tackles against this defense. When the Gamecocks' DE Jadeveon Clowney shuts them down on the end, the pressure will be put on QB Aarron Murray. Marcus Lattimore will grind the clock. Murray will fail at leading the team. My pick was wrong with the Tennessee game, but I was right about the UGA defense. South Carolina takes this one in a nail biter over UGA by a score of 27-22.
West Virginia vs. Texas
This game will show the nation which team can contend for a title. Between Texas' QB David Ash and West Virginia's QB Geno Smith playing against two weak defenses, this could be a full court basketball game. With their home crowd backing them, the Texas defense will hold the Mountaineers off by a score of 42-37.
Ohio State vs. Nebraska
If your a fan of duel-threat QBs, this is your dream game. Ohio State's QB Braxton Miller and Nebraska's QB Taylor Martinez rush for more yards than they throw for. The Buckeyes have given up some yardage on defense, but they lock teams down when it's time to score. Ohio State is 26th in the nation in points against with an average of 17 points. Linebacker Ryan Shazier will help lead the Ohio State defense to victory by a 21-20 score.
I realize some fanatics have often referred to football as being a religion. Therefore, I'm not surprised you would use the word 'redemption' to describe your article. As our "Editor at Large", it's my duty to give the technical definition of the word. Redemption, an element of salvation to express deliverance from sin.
"What was my sin?" you may ponder in that head of yours filled with all your valuable football statistics. Could it be that while you sat home in your footed pajamas making predictions, that someone was standing in line at a sportsbook placing a bet based on your information? And at the end of the game when the winners were cashing in, they were making their way to the corner of Flamingo and Vegas Blvd to beg for gas money in order to leave Sin City?
I'm sure these losses have been devastating for you as well as our fans. Please throw your pity party somewhere else!
My advice for the future: hold your comments until after the games have ended.
