Hirschman, who was competing with Connor Wood for the starting spot, said Friday it's a personal choice to give up his final two years of eligibility. Hirschman says he is looking to continue his football career where he can earn his graduate degree. Coach Mike MacIntyre has granted him a release from his scholarship to all schools other than any other Pac-12 rivals or Colorado opponents in 2013 or 2014. Colorado previously lost quarterback Jordan Webb to a season-ending ACL tear.
