Last week, head coach Al Golden warned the media that Eric Ebron would be North Carolina’s biggest impact player. He was right. This week, Golden says the player for the No. 7 Hurricanes to watch out for is Wake Forest flanker Michael Campanaro. Against Maryland, the redshirt senior broke the school record for career receptions. He had 11 catches for 122 yards in the Demon Deacons win. He now has 217 total catches, passing Desmond Clark who played 13 years in the NFL. Campanaro can be a dual threat. When the Demon Deacons get sneaky, he throws the ball, too. He scored two touchdowns against the Terrapins, one pass and one catch. He was named to the Midseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team. The offense is led by senior quarterback Tanner Price who has 10 touchdowns, three interceptions and three rushing scores. He has thrown for 1,476 yards so far this season, third in the ACC behind Tajh Boyd and Jameis Winston. “This Campanaro now, if we don’t take the game plan, and do something against Campanaro, like the mistakes we made against Ebron, we’re asking for the same result,” Golden said after practice on Monday. The victory over North Carolina was Miami’s toughest battle yet. Ebron had 199 receiving yards against the Hurricanes. In the first quarter, he broke away for a 71-yard touchdown. A few drives later, Ladarius Gunter and Rayshawn Jenkins had a miscommunication that let Quinshad Davis get an easy catch in the end zone. Miami’s defense struggled to find consistency all night. Kacy Rodgers’ injury early in the game didn’t help. Jenkins was also shaken up but quickly returned to the lineup. A healthy Miami defense will make covering Campanaro a lot easier. Golden confirmed Jenkins is fine and, as of Monday, he said that Rodgers is probable for Saturday. Defensive end Anthony Chickillo called Campanaro one of the best receivers in the country. “They’ve got a lot of weapons, so we’ve gotta be ready for em,” he said. The Hurricanes defense has shown tremendous growth and maturity this season. It hopes to continue learning from mistakes and prove why Miami is a top-ten team. Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday at SunLife Stadium. The post Covering Michael Campanaro is Canes Next Challenge appeared first on CaneInsider | Miami Hurricanes Athletics and Recruiting.
