Former University of Georgia RB Isaiah Crowell has ended up at Alabama State, after being kicked off Georgia’s team for multiple violations of both team and university policy. Crowell’s history is well documented after coming into Georgia as a five star recruit. He was suspended once before for reportedly failing a drug test and then just last week was dismissed after being arrested on two felony counts and one misdemeanor in relation to a pistol that was found in his car that had its serial number scratched off.

We have all read about what Crowell did, and why he’s not at UGA, but it’s time now to look forward for this young man. Crowell has hired one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Atlanta and clearly both intends to fight these charges and serve a minimal punishment. With that in mind the former star RB of Carver HS in Columbus, GA did what any football player would do without a team, he transferred.

Alabama State is the defending East Division SWAC Champions and they are no stranger to taking in FBS transfers with troubled pasts. Just last year Alabama State featured LB Nigel Carr from FSU who was a once troubled player. Crowell should fit in nicely at Alabama State as a RB who will share the duties. They run a 50/50 split to their play calling (375 rushing attempts to 355 passing attempts) and need to replace their leading RB in Tim Clark who graduated. Crowell could very easily come in and start from Day 1 for the Hornets.

Alabama State already features a potent passing attack with QB Gregory Jenkins throwing to WR T.C. McWilliams, so teams will not just be able to stuff the box and look to stop Crowell. The Hornets also feature a big LT in Terron Jones who clocks in at about 6’7, 320 lbs and should be sealing off corners and blowing up defenders at the second level for Crowell. Finally they also feature SAF Kejuan Riley who is considered one of the top small school prospects in the entire country. The 6‘1, 208 lbs monster should attract attention from all 32 NFL teams which has to appeal to Crowell who has NFL aspirations.

With Crowell added to the mix Alabama State will once again be the favorite to retain their East Division crown and hopefully take home the SWAC title this year.

You can see Isaiah Crowell and his new Alabama State Hornet teammates as they take on Bethune-Cookman on opening weekend September 2nd on ESPNU. Alabama State will be on national TV at least three times this season and possibly a fourth if they can once again make it to the SWAC title game.
