Flip on any given college football coverage on a various number of networks, and viewers will be exposed to one view in particular regarding the SEC. Many have been drumming up anticipation for a potential Iron Bowl showdown in just over two weeks, a game which potentially could feature a one-loss Auburn Tigers team hosting an undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide team at Jordan-Hare Stadium with conference title and national title implications very much riding on the line. And undoubtedly such a showdown in perhaps the nation’s most heated rivalry game coming to fruition would be an incredibly appetizing spectacle. Before the folks on the Plains can fully shift their attention toward such an epic clash, though, they still have one potentially tricky hurdle looms in facing longtime rival the Georgia Bulldogs (Saturday, 2:30 pm, CBS). All the endless hoopla and chatter surrounding that potential Iron Bowl showdown could come to a screeching halt if Aubrn is unable to defeat the Bulldogs this weekend. While Georgia has been severely ravaged by injuries, they still possess the capability to defeat Auburn. Auburn is faced with a very dangerous Georgia team which would be thrilled to derail the Tigers’ growing aspirations of winning an SEC championship and possibly competing for a national title. While the Bulldogs have accumulated numerous crucial injuries throughout the course of the season, they still possess the firepower needed to surprise this weekend. Points could come aplenty on Saturday. UGA can justifiably rely upon the arm of QB Aaron Murray, among one of the most prolific quarterbacks in conference history; also the red and black can call upon RB Todd Gurley, perhaps the most complete back in the country with his combination of speed and power. Georgia figures to struggle immensely on the other side of the ball, though; QB Nick Marshall leads Auburn’s high-powered attack against Georgia’s much-maligned defense which has proven extremely susceptible to surrendering huge plays of chunk yardage. College football fans and observers are already pointing toward a potential monumental top five clash between Alabama and Auburn with much at stake. First, though, Auburn must avoid a very possible pitfall against Georgia which could abruptly end those increasingly lofty dreams. No views yet
