Michigan State (3-2) at Indiana (2-2) (12:00 p.m. ET, on Big Ten Network) Line: Michigan State -14 (Bovada) Last Meeting: 2011 (Michigan State 55-3) 3 Players to Watch: 1) Aaron Burbridge (WR, MSU):Fans have been calling his name for weeks; the number one recruit from the state of Michigan will finally get a chance to show why he was so highly touted. Burbridge has impressed in practice, enough to jump the preseason consensus number one wide receiver Bennie Fowler despite having arthroscopic knee surgery earlier in the year. Burbridge has done enough to impress MSU quarterback coach Dave Warner who had said: “You put the ball close to him and he’s going to come down with it.” Powerful words for a team troubled with drops, can Aaron Burbridge back-up the words of his coach? 2) Stephen Houston (HB, IU):An Indiana running back averaging 6.1 yards per carry? Houston is part of Indiana’s two-headed monster at running back alongside D’Angelo Roberts who is averaging a respectable 4.3 YPC as well. Houston has been impressive running the ball as well as catching it; he has 10 catches for 87 yards on the season. If Indiana expects to have a chance on Saturday Stephen Houston must have a huge game. 3) William Gholston (DE, MSU):Coming off of a game where he had “the wind knocked out of him” Gholston needs to get going. He has said that he wants to be “unstoppable” but has given himself a “C” for his performance so far this season. It seems as if Gholston has been held coming off the edge at times, but a player his size should be able to play through that. Will only has 18 tackles on the year including 1 sack and 4 tackles losses. Can Gholston become “unstoppable” Saturday afternoon? Final Analysis: Both teams come into Saturday looking for their first B1G conference win. Indiana traveled to Northwestern last week while the Spartans lost a home game to Ohio State. Indiana must get their running game going if they expect to have a chance in this one, while the Spartans must be able to stop the run game with their loaded box. The Michigan State secondary, Johnny Adams in particular must step-up and this could be the perfect game for them to do so. Indiana quarterbacks only have a combined 2 interceptions on the season, but the Spartans must change that. Michigan State should win this game, but a loss would not be completely surprising due to the inconsistency associated with this team thus far. I expect Andrew Maxwell to build off of his best performance of the season last week and Le’Veon Bell to make up for his showing last week as the Spartans roll to their first B1G win of the year. My pick: Michigan State 35, Indiana 10 Rest of Staff’s Picks: Andy: Michigan State 31, Indiana 17 Cole: Michigan State 31, Indiana 10 Kevin: Michigan State 30, Indiana 13 Nate: Michigan State 42, Indiana 13
