No. 24 Northwestern (7-2, 3-2) vs. Michigan (6-3, 4-1), Saturday; 12pm ET ESPN Line: Michigan - 10 Last Meeting: 2011 (42-24 Michigan W) 3 Players to Watch: 1) Denard Robinson (QB Mich): Simply put - the Maize 'N Blue have no shot of winning this game if Robinson is a no-go or gets knocked out of the game. Devin Gardner is a nice place holder and they got away with playing him last week, but this Northwestern defense is not the Minnesota defense. They need shoelace badly to win this football game. 2) Fitzgerald Toussiant (RB Mich): 2nd to the health of Robinson is getting Fitz going on the ground. There's very little hope of winning if they can't throw the football at QB or get their running back going. Toussiant averages 3.6 yards a carry and less than 50 yards rushing a game. Those numbers need to be more like 5ypc and 100 yards against Northwestern if the Wolverines want to win. 3) Kain Colter (QB NU): Colter has been nothing short of spectacular over the past few weeks where his role has been much more defined and frankly he's got to be just as good against a defense that doesn't really play well against multiple sets on offense - just see Nebraska game film for proof. Colter needs to be smart with the football and also efficient as a passer. Final Analysis: Michigan is coming off of a nice 35-13 win over Minnesota for the Little Brown Jug last week and they did it without the help of Denard Robinson. That could be a confidence builder, however Northwestern is nothing like the terrible defense the Gophers put out on the field every Saturday. Things won't be so easy.  It's likely to be a battle of who gives first as Northwestern is the 4th best scoring offense in the conference vs. the 2nd best scoring defense in Michigan. So, who's likely to give on this one? Well, as much as names like Robinson, Roundtree, and Toussiant are household names they haven't been better than Colter, Mark, and Fields from Northwestern and that's going to be the key to this game in my opinion.  This game should be very close as both teams hopes of making a trip to Indianapolis at the start of December is on the line. The loser is completely out of the division race unless Nebraska finds a way to lose it's final three games. So, the winner keeps pressure on the division race and I think things set up nicely for the Wildcats to pull off a close victory at the Big House. My Pick: Northwestern 31, Michigan 24 Will's Pick: Michigan 24, Northwestern 21

Game Preview: Michigan Football to host Northwestern

Michigan Football (6-3, 4-1) will host Northwestern (7-2, 3-2) on Saturday at the Big House. Kick off is scheduled for 12:01pm (EST) and the game will be televised on ESPN. In a rare twist in this series Northwestern is the ranked team and the Wolverines come in unranked. This game is huge for both teams. The loser of this contest will see their Legends Division hopes all but extinguished...

Michigan mum on Robinson's status

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Out of necessity or for tactical reasons, Michigan coach Brady Hoke refused to provide a clue about Denard Robinson's availability to play against Northwestern."I'm not giving day-to-day updates," Hoke said, more than once. That leaves everyone - including the Wildcats - waiting until Saturday to see if Robinson is healthy enough to play....

Big Ten roundup: Taylor Martinez, Denard Robinson, Micah Hyde, and more.

Big Tentacles Taylor Football? Bill Connelly calls Nebraska starting quarterback Taylor Martinez "the original Johnny Manziel." This might not be good news if you're an Aggie fan. (SB*Nation) I've seen the future, and it will be. Zach Travis looks at the future of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson in the NFL, and sees him switching positions. (Maize...

Friday Focus: Michigan QB/WR Devin Gardner

Entering the 10th game of the 2012 season it appears the Wolverines have a legitimate question mark regarding the quarterback position for the first time in three seasons.  Uncertainty, yes.  Controversy, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!  If Denard Robinson is healthy he will, and should, be the starting quarterback against the Northwestern Wildcats.  The problem is that, unlike last week...

Gardner gets nod at QB for Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Devin Gardner will start at quarterback in place of Denard Robinson for a second straight week, a Michigan spokesman announced Saturday morning. Robinson sustained a nerve injury to this throwing elbow on Oct. 27, and Gardner replaced him for last week's 35-13 victory at Minnesota. Gardner went 12-for-18 for 234 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a...

U-M OC Borges goes to the two-back approach

The Michigan offense used a two-back approach in their win at Minnesota 35-13 last Saturday. Wolverine offensive coordinator Al Borges talked about the two back system, as the Maize & Blue offense tried to sustain the loss of star quarterback Denard Robinson rushing production.

College Football Pick-Six

24 Northwestern (7-2) AT Michigan (6-3) Time: 12:00 PM EDT | Spread: Michigan -9   The Pick: Northwestern wins, covers.   Why?: Denard Robinson will either be ineffective or out of the game entirely with what seems to be a haunting injury. Devin Gardner was impressive last week, but he’s still largely unproven. To beat [...]

Northwestern-Michigan Preview

Northwestern and Michigan have very thin margins for error if they want to remain in the hunt for the Big Ten's Legends Division title. For one of them, the hopes of playing in the conference title game will suffer a serious blow Saturday in Ann Arbor. Northwestern is 24th in the BCS standings in its first appearance in those rankings since Dec. 7, 2008. The Wildcats (7-2, 3...
