Just over a week ago we told you how former USC running back Dillon Baxter’s transfer to San Diego State was not going well. Apparently, we were more right than we knew. On Wednesday night a report announced that Baxter has been dismissed from the University.

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that Aztecs head coach Rocky Long claims that Baxter is “no longer with the program.” Long said players in his program have to meet certain expectations and that it is better that the two parties parted ways at this point citing “various reasons” but he didn’t go into detail.

The report cites a source that claims the 20-year-old Baxter was not attending class enough and would fall asleep in study halls. He also recently became a father and apparently that added stress to his schedule and made class attendance even more difficult for him.

Baxter was once a celebrated high school player who accounted for a California state record 76 touchdowns for Mission Bay High School in 2009. He made the decision to attend USC and enrolled early to compete for playing time under head coach Lane Kiffin and his new staff.

The highly-touted, five-star running back made national news when videos of his moves and gorgeous runs during his first spring practice made their way on to YouTube and Kiffin compared him favorably to former Trojan great Reggie Bush. His natural instincts and running ability just leap off the screen when you see him on tape.

But that was the high point of Baxter’s college career as he repeatedly found himself in Kiffin’s doghouse. He apparently had trouble attending class at USC as well, was declared ineligible for a game in 2010 for accepting a golf cart ride from a student sports agent and he reportedly often complained about his lack of playing time.

Every time he screwed up Baxter apologized and would preach that he had learned his lesson and turned things around. And without fail, he’d just do something else to get himself in trouble.

Eventually Kiffin and his staff gave up on trying to turn him around, as his attitude in the locker room had become an issue for the team. He was dismissed from the team in October and elected to transfer to SDSU.

Now, with the Aztecs already having moved on from him, there are limited options left for Baxter, who has now blown two golden opportunities.
