Oregon Has Eliminated The Upset

Ask anyone - Oregon didn't play their best game Saturday afternoon. There were penalties, 11, which accounted for 119 negative yards. The Ducks were dismal on third down and worse on fourth down. There was a blocked extra point, and for all his brilliance, Marcus Mariota missed on half his pass attempts.  All these early-season miscues might have been a problem for ordinary...

Focus on the defense: always improving and always better than most people think

Derrick Malone is developing into quite a player. For the second week in a row he led the Ducks in tackles, this time with 12 after having 11 the week before. Malone is active in the middle and getting it. He also had half of a tackle for loss. Tony Washington is doing a great job taking over from Dion Jordan. So far this season he has 2.5 sacks, 1 in the Nicholls game, and 1.5...

Virginia Week: Friday

The weather is perfect in Virginia as the Oregon Ducks are on the plane headed east for a 12:30 p.m. (Pacific) kickoff with the Cavaliers at Smith Stadium on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville on Saturday. Today, Duck Scoop links some stories and video previewing the upcoming game.

2nd half thread, Oregon at Virginia

Ducks lead 28-10 but have kept the Wahoos close with stupid penalties and poor blocking by the offensive line. They've been stuffed twice on fourth down, once at the UVa. three just before the half. Oregon has 6 penalties for 80 yards, and two of them, a taunting foul on De'Anthony Thomas, a late hit on Ricky Heimuli, were ticky-tack. A couple of the other were plain stupid...

Heisman Watch Week Two: Marcus Mariota and Wisconsin’s Backfield Have Field Days

Johnny Manziel Much quieter and more composed this week after serving his half-game suspension last week, it was the Johnny Manziel show against Sam Houston State for the Texas A&M Aggies. The sophomore quarterback threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns against the Bearkats, and added another touchdown on the ground. Could Manziel actually repeat as the Heisman winner? These...

Marcus Mariota, De'Anthony Thomas and the Heisman

Heisman campaigns have changed. Used to be, Sports Information Directors would send out glowing press releases, life-size cutouts and odd knicknacks that wouldn't fit on a desk. Notre Dame changed Joe Theisman's name. The family pronounced it THEES-man, but the athletic department office quickly encouraged him to adapt it to rhyme with a certain bronzed trophy. Theisman didn...

Cavaliers hope to use bye week to learn

If ever a team needed a week off after two games, it might be Virginia. The Cavaliers went from the highest of highs and anticipation following a rousing 19-16 victory against BYU to the lowest of lows in a 59-10 drubbing against No. 2 Oregon that was never a game. ''Their speed was something that we've never really seen before, but that's not really an excuse for...
