Northern Illinois' BCS Berth in the Orange Bowl to face ACC Champion Florida State was not too surprising to me. I had them projected in early morning hours on Sunday in contradiction to projections of ESPN and CBS. ESPN analysts seemed shocked and angered, especially Kirk Herbstreit. Northern Illinois became the first MAC team to earn a BCS Bowl berth. On the ESPN BCS Selection Show, Rece Davis asked Herbstreit, "With the rules being set this way. The rules also allow a team with five losses like Wisconsin to go. They allow Louisville to go. They are ranked ahead of both of them so what's your reaction to Northern Illinois being in a BCS game? " He replied very distraughtly,  “...The fact that Northern Illinois is in the BCS in 2012 is really a sad state for college football and  where we are with the current system...They don't deserve to be in the BCS this year. Are you kidding me with Northern Illinois playing in the BCS? There's two things here that s...

Final BCS projections: Northern Illinois on the bubble, Huskies have hope to Bust the BCS

Boy oh boy, this is the weekend the BCS pollsters and computers gets tested when the final BCS Standings for 2012 are revealed. ESPN's Brad Edwards showed real uncertainty in his BCS Bowl projections last night and CBS Sports' Jerry Palm has Northern Illinois out of the BCS top 16 by just .0021! The real truth is that there is hope for the Huskies, but how much is really...

Video: Herbstreit: Northern Illinois in Orange Bowl is an “absolute joke”

Typically, we are having fans and media squawking about the two teams selected to play in the BCS Championship, or the team not selected to play in the BCS Championship. But since everyone is super-excited about the Notre Dame/Alabama match-up, there is another controversy making headlines today, and that is the inclusion of Northern Illinois [...]
OH, SNAP!

Gas station issues retort to No. Illinois haters

ESPN’s college football analysts used their platform during Sunday evening’s BCS Selection Show to let America know that they were none too happy about Northern Illinois, a one-loss MAC team, playing in the Orange Bowl. The normally reasonable Kirk Herbstreit said, “The fact that Northern Illinois is in the BCS in 2012 is really a sad state for college football and where we...

2013 Orange Bowl: Was Northern Illinois BCS Worthy?

US Presswire The Huskies of Northern Illinois capped off their regular season with a dramatic double overtime victory over Kent State in the MAC title, 44-37. Instead of everybody congratulating the Huskies or talking about how they put together their best season in program history at 12-1, everybody is inappropriately bashing them. They may be one of the least known or talented...

Few believe Northern Illinois worthy of Orange

Northern Illinois went 12-1 this season. The Huskies won the Mid-American Conference. They deserve to go to a bowl game. Just not a Bowl Championship Series game. The truth is that many of us college football nuts love watching MAC games. They are fun, they are high-scoring and they are unpredictable. MACtion has taken on a life of its own, especially on Twitter. And the games provide...

Oklahoma football players Cortez Johnson and Jalen Saunders arrested for marijuana posession.

Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops probably didn't get much time to celebrate the Sooners' win over TCU on Saturday. Two of his players, defensive back Cortez Johnson and wide receiver Jalen Saunders, decided they wanted to be like the Honey Badger and were arrested early Sunday morning for marijuana possession. "Cleveland County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman...

Northern Illinois fans to ESPN: Suck our oranges!

It is safe to say ESPN did not handle the fact Northern Illinois clinched an automatic spot in the BCS with what you and I would call class. I would highly advise you to check out Matt Yoder’s rant and reaction on Awful Announcing, because quite honestly that sums up my reaction as well as anybody’s to the initial response form some of ESPN’s college football analysts. Is Oklahoma...

Northern Illinois promotes Carey to head coach

Northern Illinois has promoted offensive coordinator Rod Carey to head coach, replacing the departed Dave Doeren. The school announced the move Sunday - the same day it accepted an invitation to the Orange Bowl. Doeren was hired Saturday by North Carolina State to replace the fired Tom O'Brien after leading NIU (12-1) to Mid-American Conference championships in each of his two...

BCS induces yawns

Will Jordan Lynch leave some "Drops of Jupiter" all over the Orange Bowl? As expected, the BCS announced Sunday night that college football blue bloods Notre Dame and Alabama will play for the national title in Miami on Jan. 8. The rest of the BCS bowls, however, won’t exactly move the needle. Whatever follow-up the Orange Bowl has planned for last year’s...

Oklahoma 24, TCU 17: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

A 10-2 record and co-champions of the Big 12. Don't blame Bob Stoops or the players; blame the Big 12 for sending the Trophy. In yet another cardiac win, OU showed how much it hates prosperity at times. All year, the Sooners have been unable to combine offensive and defensive success to separate from teams and win games by a comfortable margin. Still, a win is a win,...

'Noles pull away from upstart Huskies

Florida State stuffed Northern Illinois all-purpose threat Jordan Lynch for most of the night Tuesday and won the Orange Bowl 31-10. Senior fullback Lonnie Pryor, voted the game's outstanding player, ran for a career-high 134 yards and two scores in only five carries for Florida State. Senior EJ Manuel threw for 291 yards. The victory was a consolation prize for the No. 13...

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder has been voted the AP Big 12 coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to the third conference championship in school history and a berth in the Fiesta Bowl. The Wildcats' only loss came at Baylor late in the season, when they had climbed to No. 1 in the BCS standings. They rebounded to beat Texas last Saturday to wrap up their first Big 12...

My Heisman Trophy Finalists

While I am not blessed with the opportunity to serve as one of the 870 voters who gets to vote for the Heisman winner, I still want to let everyone see what my ballot would look like.  I know there are only 3 finalists but I wanted to share my Top 5. I will start from five to one, hope you enjoy. 5.) Jordan Lynch QB, Northern Illinois 2012 Stats:  Passing: 222/353 for 2,962 passing...

NIU makes history; Orange Bowl vs. Florida State

Northern Illinois earned the first BCS bowl bid in school history where they will play Florida State in the Orange Bowl, SI.com reported Sunday.
