Eddie Lacy of the Alabama Crimson Tide could be a 2nd or 3rd round NFL Draft pick, and may be the first running back selected. As there’s no stud running back in this class. Eddie Lacy finished the ’12 season with 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns. The 17 rushing touchdowns are tied for the third most in single season Crimson Tide history. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry and 94.4 yards per game. In the national championship game DESTRUCTION of Notre Dame, Eddie Lacy was named the Offensive MVP after rushing for 140 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Eddie Lacy declared early for the NFL Draft meaning the Tide now turns from Mark Ingram to Trent Richardson to Eddie Lacy to Derrick Henry. The very recent tradition of superlative Alabama Crimson Tide running backs continues with the kid who broke the all time high school rushing record. If it’s not Lacy, then it will likely be the Badgers record setter Montee Ball. Or Jonathan Franklin of UCLA as the first running back off the board. Joseph Randle of Oklahoma State, Giovanni Bernard of North Carolin and Mike Gillissle of Florida are other running backs in that same round 2-3 range projection. Today was Alabama’s second NFL pro day with 20 NFL teams in attendance. It gave Eddie Lacy, Damion Square and Nico Johnson a final chance to work out for NFL coaches and scouts after injuries kept them out of the Tide’s first Pro Day on March 13. “I feel like my 40 time was the most important thing they wanted to see,” Eddie Lacy said. ““They wanted to see if I could catch, if I was a good (receiver), and I think I proved that today.” Lacy’s times in the 40-yard dash ranged from 4.57-4.63 while posting a broad jump of 9 feet, 7 inches and a vertical of 33.5 inches. He missed the first Alabama Pro Day after injuring a hamstring in preparation for the NFL Combine. Paul M.
