An independent baseball team located in northern Kentucky is striking while the iron is hot. And it has everything to do with the current controversy surrounding Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o.On Thursday night, the Florence Freedom announced plans to hold "Manti Te'o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day" as part of a promotion for their upcoming season. As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans will get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids' area, as well as an air guitar contest."There's not a lot to do to get attention in January," said the team's general manager Josh Anderson. "You have to find some way to get the buzz."The festivities are slated to go down on May 23. Florence is hoping the promotion draws enough real people to pack its 3,100 seat stadium. They drew roughly 2,000 fans per game in 2012.On Wednesday, Deadspin.com shook the sporting world by breaking the story that Te'o's girlfriend, who was said to have died in the fall due to Leukemia, never existed at all. Notre Dame quickly released a statement saying that Te'o was a victim in the cruel hoax. The bizarre story has already created a new social fad called "Teoing", which basically consists of men posing for photos with invisible girlfriendsVia ESPN
