Florida's Reed loses helmet on vicious hit

You know someone is a team player when they take a massive hit to make a play. Reed miraculously held onto the ball, after a hit which would surely draw a fine from Commissioner Roger Goodell had they been playing in the NFL.

Burton missed UF's victory with back spasms

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- No. 14 Florida fullback Trey Burton missed the Gators' 38-0 victory against Kentucky on Saturday because of back spasms. Coach Will Muschamp said Burton awoke with the problem Friday and had shooting pain every time he stepped on his right foot. The Gators (4-0) hardly missed Burton against Kentucky, and Florida has a week off before playing No. 2...

No. 11 Florida undefeated after 4 games again

Florida has been in this position before. Last season, in fact. The Gators were highly ranked and undefeated after four games in 2011 before collapsing in October. Players and coaches don't expect it to happen again. They insist there's a completely different feeling this time around - stemming from more talent and experience, increased confidence, late-game success, a...

Driskel building on his reputation

Florida’s faith in Jeff Driskel balloons with each win. The staff’s confidence in the sophomore first fired in the season opener against Bowling Green, when the Oviedo native racked up more snaps at quarterback than Jacoby Brissett. It continued in College Station, Texas, when he was named UF’s starting quarterback. This week, he joined Sam Robey and Sharrif Floyd in the coveted...

Florida and Kentucky Ignoring the Streak

Both sides are doing their best not to think about the 25-game winning streak Florida has over Kentucky heading into this weekend. The Gators have won the last four matchups by at least 34 points and haven’t been threatened by the Wildcats since 2007. As Kentucky heads to Gainesville this weekend for another chance at ending the streak, no one involved in the streak wants to acknowledge it.

CBC Interviews Top RB in the Nation, 5-Star Derrick Green

Shortly following the Vols embarrassing 37-20 loss to the Florida Gators, former Tennessee great, Leonard Little, tweeted that there is a formula to winning in the SEC, and it's quite simple... "Run the ball downhill and play good defense. That's it."   While the idea hardly seems novel, it is something more teams need to take to heart... especially...

Bye week comes at a good time

The Florida Gators opened up with the SEC contests in their first four games and that usually means some hard play on the field. With that hard play comes injuries and the gators are a little beat up right now. At 4-0 and with the big 38-0 victory Saturday against Kentucky, the Gators could use some time off.

Another 4-0 start, but this feels different

On the surface, this Florida team is kicking off at the same pace as last year’s squad. In 2011, the Gators dipped into October 4-0. Now, as September closes, the orange and blue is, again, sitting four wins deep — unblemished by a single loss. But with a new offensive coordinator and what Coach Will Muschamp describes as “a more talented team,” this year’s Florida Gators differ.

Developing Vets & Youth Is Creating Depth

It still isn’t a full roster for the Florida Gators football squad. With only 79 spots filled on an 85 man roster it would be prudent to take advantage of the players you do have. The Florida staff headed by second year coach Will Muschamp seems to be setting the tone in terms of youth being served in 2012. They are also getting some older reserves involved to build some quality depth.

Third Downs Mostly About Execution

Coming into the game with Kentucky, the Florida Gators were hitting just 27 % on third down conversions. 11 of 41 just looks bad for that particular statistic. Saturday, things got going a little better and in the 38-0 swamping of Kentucky, the Gators were able to covert on 12 of 17, third down attempts in the game. Florida head coach Will Muschamp said the Gators executed better on Saturday.
