Flickr/prayitno Oregon’s fan base hasn’t really had much to complain about the past few years, considering the team has reached a BCS bowl game in each of the past four seasons. Sure, they’ve still yet to win the elusive BCS National Championship, but you won’t find too many people feeling bad for the situation the Ducks have created for themselves in Eugene. But according to one anonymous player who decided to attend his first game as a fan, Oregon fans are highly critical the team’s performance. As such, he wants them to go (expletive) themselves. John Canzano of The Oregonian published a letter he was sent by an anonymous player earlier today – it is absolutely scathing. Below is just a portion of what was written: I remember walking in from fall camp practice and talking to my teammates about how similar our lives were to the TV series Spartacus. We were slaves. We were paid enough to live, eat, and train… And nothing more. We went out on the field where we were broken down physically and mentally every day, only to wake up and do it again on the next. On the outside, spectators placed bets and objectified us. They put us on pedestals and worshipped us for a short time, but only as long as we were winning. In the end, we were just a bunch of dumbass (racial slur) for the owners to whip, and the rich to bet on. The player also mentions that fans at this past Saturday’s game against UCLA were critical of Marcus Mariota, DeAnthony Thomas and the coaching staff.  If true, this is obviously disappointing to hear. Between the attendance issues in the SEC and ACC and stories such as this, college football is having some serious issues with fan interaction in 2013.
