News is swirling around the South Carolina football camp that Sheldon Royster is leaving the team. The former St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) safety is rumored to be heading closer to home and all fingers point to his next stop being Rutgers. If you recall, the No. 7 safety in the nation out of high school picked South Carolina over Rutgers in 2011. Now it seems he is bound for the Scarlet Knights. As of Sunday morning, he is no longer on the roster - HERE.Reasons are not clear as he does have a health issue (diabetes) and is third on the depth chart behind D.J. Swearinger and Jared Shaw. If playing time is a issue, then it is a bad choice as he was going to be the prime suspect at safety next season with Swearinger and Shaw being seniors. I am sure it is a combination of things but we here at LOHD hope he finds happiness. This does hurt the depth in the secondary...again. Yes, he was not a starter but he provided depth at safety and was going to get some reps. Now, well it is tim...

Vanderbilt looking to play spoiler vs. Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has successfully handled high expectations for most of his college career. He knows his ninth-ranked Gamecocks will have to quickly learn the same lesson. Excitement among South Carolina fans is at an all-time high after last season's 11-2 season, the most victories the program's ever produced. To achieve their goals...

Highlight Monday: Marcus Lattimore

We've tried to give all the 2012 Heisman candidates a preseason place to shine with Highlight Monday, but somehow haven't included Marcus Lattimore yet. Unless you count this (sweet dreams, kid). As a true freshman in 2010 Lattimore racked up 1,197 yards and 17 TDs on the ground, and was a legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield with another 412 yards and 2...

Gamecocks Football: 3 Days Until Kickoff

Oh boy...the beginning of South Carolina's 2012 football season is just 3 days until kickoff. 3 is the rank of South Carolina's total defense last season in the SEC.  It's also South Carolina's total defense rank in the country.  The Gamecocks finished just behind LSU and Alabama.  Carolina only allowed 267.7 yards per game.  This year's defense will be...

Gamecocks Football: 4 Days Until Kickoff

Dreams of BCS are beginning to invade my sleep as kickoff of Gamecocks football is not just 4 days away. South Carolina did many things well last season, but on several occassions they turned the ball over too many times.  On four seperate occasions USC turned the ball over four times in a game.  Not surprisingly, Carolina lsot two of those games: Auburn and Arkansas.  The Gamecocks...

Scouting Snapshots-Marcus Lattimore

These are my preseason scouting reports.  They are meant to just lay a foundation for where these players are going into the 2012 College Football season.  Obviously when I do final scouting reports on these players after the season, things will change.  No guarantees they will change for the better, and I do my best to be objective and pragmatic.  You all may take that as being...
