GAINESVILLE, Fla. Two weeks into fall camp and two weeks from the season opener, Floridas quarterback battle remains a tight race between sophomores Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel. While Driskel missed some reps on Monday and Tuesday due to a shoulder bruise suffered in Sundays practice, Gators offensive coordinator Brent Pease said Friday that both players remain in contention to be the Gators starter on Sept. 1 against Bowling Green. Its been up and down, Pease said of the quarterback competition. The thing Ive seen from both of them is this: They both have gotten better in all aspects of their game. If they can get better to where both can manage games and make plays, then thats really what were striving for. Two days after Florida head coach Will Muschamp said that Driskels bruised non-throwing shoulder was not a factor in the competition, Pease echoed those sentiments Friday. While Brissett did get more reps early in the week as Driskels shoulder improved, there doesnt a...

No. 23 Florida ready to make roster decisions

Two weeks before the season opener, No. 23 Florida held a rare, open practice Saturday in The Swamp. The Gators better hope it's not an indication of things to come. About 1,000 fans showed up for a two-hour session in full pads that coach Will Muschamp called a ''little sluggish.'' Florida's offense, led by competing quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Jeff...

Former Gator Jeff Demps is looking for a NFL home after winning a silver medal.

It’s funny what a little shine on global TV can get you. Former Florida RB Jeff Demps went undrafted this year after passing on football in January to focus on track and field Demps joined our Olympic team, headed over to London and won a silver medal as part of the 400-meter relay group. Muschamp discusses Driskel's shoulder injury

Gators coach Will Muschamp made a surprise visit to UF's media availability for players on Wednesday. Muschamp wasn't scheduled to speak to the media again until Friday but after conflicting reports surfaced across the Internet on Tuesday about sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel's left (non-throwing) shoulder, Steve McClain, UF's associate athletic director of communications...

Gators ready to find answers to key questions

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Gators get to rest Sunday other than for some afternoon meetings. For the first time since fall camp opened the players won't have to slip on their helmets and practice. Meanwhile, the coaches have perhaps their most important day of camp. Gators coach Will Muschamp referred to Sunday as Decision Day. "We need to start making decisions on who is...

No Movement at QB Despite Driskel Injury

Jacoby Brissett saw more time and reps at quarterback in the last week while Jeff Driskel dealt with his shoulder injury, but Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease doesn’t think that gives him an advantage. The two sophomores continue to battle for the starting job as the Gators will hold their second scrimmage of the fall Friday afternoon. Pease doesn’t see a leader at this...

One of the prize members of the Florida Gators 2012 recruiting class has already experienced a position change. Incoming freshman Brian Poole has been moved from cornerback to safety. Poole was one of the Gators star recruits and someone expected to contribute immediately during the 2012 season. After the Gators’ football season last year, reports were that Demps was going to pursue a track...

Nixon Sees Big Things for OL and Gillislee

One player that has definitely been through the highs and the lows of Florida football is senior offensive tackle Xavier Nixon. The Fayetteville (NC) native started off strong in 2009 when the Gators went 13-1 and he finished with a freshman All-American season. Since then the Gators have struggled and he has struggled with his health and play on the field. That should change in 2012.

Video moments from Saturday's practice

The Florida Gators had their first open Fall practice of the Will Muschamp era on Saturday. The kind folks at GatorVision offered up a couple of minutes of video and we have it for you. It is always fun when the boys of the gridiron finally strap on the pads in the stadium and even better when we can watch. We hope you enjoy.

Story Ready for New Beginning

TCU added their third highly regarded transfer on Friday when former Florida Gator wide receiver JaJuan Story chose to transfer to the Frogs.

Practice Observations: Defense

Cody Jones and I split up The Swamp on Saturday to try and bring you the best coverage two guys can of your Florida Gators at practice. I stuck with the defensive side while watching from the East stands and Cody was on offense and in the West stands. Here is a look at what I saw on defense with a few nuggets from Cody along the way.
