Fox Sports Florida:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Mack Brown had a career day, Jeff Driskel was efficient and No. 10 Florida opened the season with a 24-6 victory over Toledo on Saturday.
Brown ran 25 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Driskel completed 17 of 22 passes for 153 yards and a score. And Florida's defense, which ranked fifth in the country in 2012, looked every bit as good as last year's version despite losing eight starters and its coordinator.
The Gators controlled both lines of scrimmage, opening holes for Brown and keeping steady pressure on Toledo's experienced spread offense. It was exactly the style of play Florida has become known for under third-year coach Will Muschamp. No flashiness. Few highlight-reel plays. But a win in the end.
It was Florida's 24th consecutive season-opening victory, the second-longest active streak in the country. Only Nebraska (27) has a longer current run.

If you are swimming in the flood of football news that bounces around sports fannery these days then you probably saw a report that five Florida Gators were suspended for today’s tilt against Tulsa, a matchup between powerhouse programs (Florida is an admirable powerhouse, Tulsa is an embarrassing one). Well, it turns out that not all of those guys were even suspended. One of them...
No. 10 Florida has suspended five players for the season opener against Toledo.

Loucheiz Purifoy is one of six Florida Gators suspended for the team’s opening game on Saturday against Toledo, according to reports. On Wednesday, Gators head coach Will Muschamp said that starting linebacker Antonio Morrison would be the only player suspended for the game. He apparently changed his mind. In addition to Purifoy and Morrison, defensive […]
Prior to Florida's 24-6 victory over Toledo on Saturday, the Gators suspended four players for the season opener due to an undisclosed violation of team rules. Several local media outlets reported that freshman defensive lineman Jay-nard Bostwick was among the players the Gators suspended for the game. The only problem with this information is the fact that it wasn't true...
Will Muschamp got a little sensitive over “inaccurate” reporting about his team. What was the huge deal that cause this rant? On Friday night, the Palm Beach Post, Gator Country, and the Gainesville Sun all reported that Loucheiz Purifoy, Darious Cummings, Latroy Pittman, Quinteze Williams, Antonio Morrison, and Jay-nard Bostwick were suspended for the game. So six Gators were...

The Florida Gators finished game one of what they hope to be an exciting 2013 season. There were certainly some fun things to watch on Saturday in the 24-6 win over Toledo and there were also some things we would have liked to see. Cody Jones and Bob Redman answer ten questions about Saturday's win and what what we believe the season will unfold.
Usually a move to the other side of the ball for a player is out of necessity or maybe a wild shot at finding a better home for a player. For the Florida Gators who were looking to add a little bit of speed in the backfield, moving Valdez Showers from safety to running back seems to be one of those golden moves that may really surprise.
The Florida Gators had somewhat of a typical home opener Saturday. Not too much flash and dash, a few guys out for disciplinary reasons, and points in the game where they just ween't focused. Nevertheless, the season is here, they are 1-0, and have a big matchup a week from now. Here are some photos from the opener against the Toledo Rockets.
It has been a long time coming and the 2013 football season is upon us. The Florida Gators open the season at home in The Swamp against a pretty good and 2012 bowl team in Toledo. The Rockets bring a high flying offense to Gainesville and are looking for an upset. The Gators are looking to get off to a strong start.
The Hurricanes, who will play their second of nine games inside the state of Florida this weekend, are set to host the Florida Gators on Saturday. The players are excited.
