Louisville senior safety Hakeem Smith has been named a preseason Second Team All American by CBS Sports. Smith is the only Louisville player to be featured on CBS’ first and second teams.
Smith is on the preseason watch list for the the Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Award. Both awards are given annually to the nation’s top defender.
The Georgia native redshirted as a true freshman in 2009, which was Steve Kragthorpe’s final season at the helm. As a redshirt freshman in 2010 Smith was arguably one of the best defenders on the Louisville roster. He was named Big East Newcomer of the year.
Smith has the chance to become just the second player in Louisville history to receive all league honors for four consecutive seasons. He is expected to have a huge senior season. The duo of Smith and Pryor, give Louisville one of the top safety tandems in the country.
