The Army Black Knights travel across the country to face the San Diego State Aztecs. Last year SDSU beat Army 23-20 at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights rushed for 403 yards against the Aztecs but killed themselves with eight fumbles while turning over the ball three times. San Diego State isn't as talented as last year with the graduation of the best passer they ever had in Ryan Lindley.

Rich Ellerson enters his fourth season as Army head football coach with his Black Knights looking to rebound from a miserable 3-9 campaign last season. Last fall the Black Knights ran for school record 4,158 yards. The 2012 running back positions are the strength of the offense but they have to work on improving ball security.
The first game of the year matches the Army Black Knights (Sagarin 98) and the Mountain West Conference San Diego State Aztecs (Sagarin 71, 0-1) The Aztecs lead the all-time series 1-0, with last year’s 23-20 win at Michie Stadium.
Army kicks off their season with a trip out west to face a familiar opponent. Last year San Diego State University defeated Army in a closely contested match. A fourth quarter field goal put SDSU over Army 23-20, despite the fact that the Black Knights racked up 446 yards to SDSU's 292.
