Heart of Dallas Bowl: Purdue Boilermakers (6-6) and Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-5) Jan 1, noon CT ESPNU – Dallas, TX Player Swag Bag: Backpacks, long-sleeve dry-fit shirts, stocking caps Purdue’s Season: Despite Purdue qualifying for a bowl game the Boilermakers head coach Danny Hope was let go after winning the final three games of the regular season. Hope has been replaced by former Kent State Coach Darrell Hazell. Purdue lost to Notre Dame by a mere field goal early in the year. QB Robert Marve leads the Boilermaker offense and has been playing through the pain on a knee with a busted ACL. Sr. RB Ralph Bolden is expected to return from injured reserve to play in what will be his final game. Purdue’s defense suffered numerous injuries throughout the year but after a month to recooperate should be healthy. Keep an eye on Second Team All American DT Kawann Short. Oklahoma State’s Season: The Cowboys will be without their offensive coordinator Todd Monken who became the head coach at Southern Mississippi. This year Oklahoma State has thrown for 4001 passing yards and 29 touchdowns this season but has done so with three quarterbacks passing over 1000 yards. The likely starter will be Jr. Clint Chelf who had 1391 yards, 12 TDs and 6 INTs but you never know. Oklahoma State’s offense average 44.7 points per game. Watch Jr. RB Joseph Randle, arguably the best RB in the Big 12. If Randle finds holes the Cowboys will leave Dallas smiling. On defense, the Cowboys gave up nearly 30 points per game allowing opponents to run for 140 yards and pass for 285 yards per game. The Game: The Cowboys are a 16.5 point favorite going into this game. That makes Purdue the largest underdog of any bowl game. Expect plenty of scoring and mostly by players in orange. If Purdue’s defensive front is healthy and can limit Randle’s effectiveness and force a few turnovers they have a chance. Purdue should be able to score on the Cowboy’s defense but can they score enough?
