Jim Mora has his Bruins primed to go 8-0 before having to close the season against three ranked teams in their last four games.

The Houston Cougars season is slowly getting out of hand as they have gone 0-3 to start the season for the first time since 2001. Houston has now gone from a program that almost busted the BCS party last year to one going into a full out tailspin.

The game was sloppy all around for the offenses, there were great defensive efforts for both teams, and both punters brought their A-game.

The Good:

Richie Leone and Jeff Locke put on a punting clinic. Punting isn’t usually a sexy part of the game, but when done right it is something to gawk at. Leone kept the Cougars from losing their heads with nine terrific punts for 437 yards, an average of  48.6 yards. Locke helped the Bruin defense keep a usually potent offense at bay with five punts for 217 yards. Neither offense had great field position when not coming off a turnover and the great punting allowed for great defensive plays during the game.

The Bad:

David Piland has it hard trying to follow a quarterback with every passing record available, but last weeks performance against Louisiana Tech gave Houston fans some hope. He set a single game NCAA record of his own throwing 77 passes with out an interception. Piland’s 53 completions for 580 yards last week are third best in Cougar history, even better than Keenum’s best single game effort.

This week however, was not as successful for the redshirt sophomore. Piland went 28-60 for 249 yards, no touchdowns, and five interceptions. After a lackluster week one performance against Texas State Cougar fans are still unsure of what type of quarterback will lead them into the Big East.

The Ugly:

The TV deal that was supposed to make the PAC 12 a premier conference made it look plain silly Saturday night. Most People in Houston did not have access to the game, although that may have been for the best. And many people in the Los Angeles area were left looking for any sport bar that had the necessary TV provider.

It was a problem all day for people who wanted to watch more than one PAC 12 team play. This should be a lesson for other conference that may want to follow in the PAC 12’s footsteps. Maybe they should make sure that fans have the ability to watch the games before they boast about their big TV deals. College football fans won’t have an idea of how good PAC 12 teams are if they can’t watch them.
