Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads has been issued a public reprimand for his comments after the Cyclones' 31-30 home loss to Texas on Thursday. He will not be fined. "Coach Rhoads violated Conference rules that prohibit coaches, student-athletes, athletic department staff and university personnel from making public comments about game officials," Bowlsby said in a release. Rhoads opened his postgame press conference with a nearly two-minute rant about a controversial non-fumble call in the final minutes of the loss. Texas running back Johnathan Gray was ruled down by contact, and the ruling was upheld after a video review. "I've got the privilege as the head coach of this football program to face my players, win or lose, and look them in the eye and (say) how proud I am of the work they put forth, the effort they gave," Rhoads said. "And to make a play on the 1-yard line, with their backs against the wall -- clear to everybody -- and have it taken away from them, that's hard to express." Big 12 Supervisor of Football Officials Walt Anderson issued a statement on Friday that there was no clear evidence that it was a fumble after examining multiple camera angles. "Although more severe action was possible he is being issued a public reprimand," Bowlsby said. "Coach Rhoads is also put on notice that future incidents may result in a more serious penalty."
