South Carolina Gamecock defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is one of the best d-linemen in the country. Clowney, a sophomore, has had a spectacular career and is looking to finish up at the top of the pile. He’ll most likely turn pro after next season if ESPN’s Mel Keiper is correct. Keiper predicted that Clowney would have been the first pick in the 2013 NFL draft if he were eligible. There has never been a true defensive player to ever take home the Heisman, although this year Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o finished second with 1,706 points. “I believe a defensive player can win the Heisman next year,” Clowney said. “That’s my next thing, New York,” Clowney said Monday night after the Gamecock’s practice. “Next season, I am going to come out and try to work harder than I did this season and try to get there.” “It’s a possibility,” he said. “I just keep playing my game, and I probably have a shot at winning next year.” Clowney did receive 61 votes for the Heisman this year, 4 of which were 1st place votes. It’s safe to say that Clowney could possibly be in New York next season, but whether or not he can take home the award is still in question. There are several other players that are predicted to have big years next season along with Clowney. For now, all eyes will be on Johnny Manziel heading into the 2013 season, but Clowney shouldn’t be overlooked by SEC fans.
