Kentucky sophomore defensive back J.D. Harmon has been ruled academically ineligible for this upcoming season. Harmon was a potential starter for Kentucky going in to fall camp and his loss leaves Kentucky incredibly weak in the secondary.Nate Willis, another member of the Kentucky secondary, is still waiting for official word on his eligibility for this upcoming season. If Willis is also declared ineligible, Kentucky may look to borrow players from other postions to fill the void. After not receiving much playing time for the first half of last year, Harmon had a breakout game against Missouri picking off two passes and recording seven tackles. His absense will leave Kentucky with zero returning players who have intercepted a pass in college football. As of today, Kentucky's 2nd string defensive backs will include a walk on who mainly played wide receiver in high school. It's hard to imagine him having much success covering SEC caliber receivers.Kentucky hopes its strong defensive line will prevent quarterbacks from having much time to throw deep passes. Look for true freshman Jaleel Hytchye to receive a lot playing time in the backfield this year. He has already received praise from the UK coaching staff after only three practices. Kentucky's first game of the year is against Western Kentucky in Nashville, TN, on August 31st. Western Kentucky defeated Kentucky in overtime last year on a trick play.New Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino is very familiar playing the Wildcats, facing them many timew while he was the head coach of Louisville and Arkansas. This will be new Kentucky coach Mark Stoops first ever game as a head coach.
