Verne Lundqvist’s calm, even voice is a hallmark of CBS broadcasts, his familiar tone reminding folks back home that CBS is supposed to be a classy station. Classy stations don’t use four-letter words on-air — and in the case of Lundqvist, who apparently can make a good joke when called upon, his stable of four-letter words includes the acronym for one behemoth sports network: ESPN. Lundqvist found himself intoning backhanded judgment on said network over the weekend as he called the Alabama-LSU game alongside Gary Danielson. Near the end of the game, the camera panned to the sideline, where Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s mom, Dee Dee Bonner, and girlfriend, Katherine Webb, were watching the game. Webb, of course, became instantly famous last year when she was spotted on the sideline of another Alabama game, where she was the subject of one of the most awkward on-air comments ever courtesy of ESPN’s Brent Musburger. Lundqvist, however, is a pro, and he simply identified the pair and went back to talking about the game. Danielson asked him if that was all he had to say, and Lundqvist said it was — but not without taking one little dig at the Worldwide Leader. “You’re darn right,” he said. “I don’t work for that four-letter network.” Listen to Lundqvist’s comments in the video below.
