Knicks Aquire Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox
If you haven't heard by now, the Knicks aquired Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox before the trading deadline. Now, obviously this is, like everything else regarding Knick basketball right now, a move all about 2010. However, this was one of the best moves Donnie Walsh has made since he's been in New York.
First off, Larry Hughes has the potential to be a solid player comming off the bench. He does exactly what D'Antoni wants his players to do; play little defense, get an open look on the perimiter, and fire away. While he is aging quite a bit, i feel that he's got the potential to become a real asset to the franchise.
Secondly, Walsh did something that has been long overdue; he dumped Jerome James and his 15 mil. per year salary. James, because you probably haven't heard of him if you don't follow the Knicks, had a good playoff series with Seattle and Isiah Thomas decided he was a must-have. James played maybe 15 minutes per season, sidelined with countless injuries.
The aquisition of Chris Wilcox was again, a move to clear cap-space for 2010, but Wilcox also has a lot of potential. I feel like Wilcox could deffinitley give Lee and Harrington some rest, and because Jared Jefferies is at the 3-spot, the only other big that the Knicks had comming off of the bench was Malik Rose. Wilcox could be a solid role player, although i don't see him being such a big addition to the club.
With Nate, Al Harrington, and David Lee performing at the levels they are performing at, this Knicks team has a serious shot at the playoffs. And getting Hughes and Wilcox deffinitley helps.
