His screams were audible from a great distance, because of the hush that fell over the crowd at Faurot Field. The injury was so obviously significant that the opposing coach, Texas' Mack Brown, jogged across the field to offer his condolences. The Big 12's leading rusher, Henry Josey, tore his ACL, MCL and patellar tendon in a particular gruesome pull-down tackle on Nov. 12. Now, Missouri's offense must regroup and unite under the two new faces of its backfield. Luckily, they're familiar faces. RB Kendial Lawrence won the job out of August camp before an injury in the first game, and Josey's ascension Wally-Pipped him from carries. Redshirt senior De'Vion Moore led the team in rushing yards a year ago. A high-ankle sprain in the second game of the season forced him out of action. By the time he returned, Moore was a mere afterthought. Now, Lawrence and Moore return to the forefront in Missouri's new-found ground game. Both said it's been a tough few days as Josey has been in and out of surgery, but the team is ready to move on. "For it to happen, it was a crushing blow," Moore said. "Especially to me, being an older guy in the position and seeing all the things he did to develop and become the type of running back he became, for that injury to happen, you know, it hurts." To move on, Moore said, they have to return to the game they love. "Just work," Moore said. "We gotta go out and practice and go out and play like every day throughout the season and we gotta make sure we finish strong, not only for us but for Henry, because he paved the way for us." Moore's situation is especially interesting, because he's gone from the team's leading rusher in 2010 to just 39 yards this year. Moore said, despite being buried on the depth chart, he'll have no issues stepping back into whatever role the team needs. "It's not hard when you're friends with everybody in your position," Moore said. "These guys are my friends and my brothers."
