I read on Friday, that former New York Met, Ty Wigginton has been non-tendered and is now a free agent.
Wigginton would perfectly fill the Mets' need for a right handed hitter with some pop in his bat.
The 31 year old hit a solid.285, with a .350 on-base percentage, and a robust .526 slugging percentage.
In just 386 at-bats, he slugged 23 homeruns and drove in 58 runs. Over the last two seasons he has hit 46 homers. He also has good doubles power, which would play well in the new park with expansive gaps.
With Wigginton on the Mets, we would have a great insurance policy on David Wright, but that is just a tiny part of it. He can play first base, second base and leftfield too.
He is a clutch hitter who would give us some serious right handed pop off the bench, and he would easily get 350 at-bats playing left field and moving Tatis to rightfield against left handers, and I don't think any of us would bemoan seeing Wiggy stealing some playing time from Castillo.
