Found September 25, 2012 on 60 Max Power O:
After a bye week that hopefully has given key players in Joe Bergeron and Jordan Hicks an opportunity to heal from injuries, the days are counting down before Texas treks to Stillwater, Oklahoma and an early-conference showdown against Mike Gundy's Oklahoma State Cowboys. Once upon a time this series was decidedly in favor of the (burnt) orange as Texas won games going away as well as those that involved miracle comebacks. Times have changed recently with OSU gaining the advantage, namely during the playing days of Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon, two players who are now rookies in the NFL. So what should Texas expect on a Saturday night in Stillwater? For starters, the question is who will be the starter for OSU at quarterback. Wes Lunt is also on the mend list while in their last game Denton Guyer product J.W. Walsh more than adequately held the reins at quarterback. Beyond that, it is fairly safe to say based on the early weeks of the season that this could be one of...

Oklahoma fans wanted Landry Jones benched

College football fans are the best, aren’t they? Our friend Jerod Morris of Midwest Sports Fans is doing a four-week college football road trip sponsored by La Quinta (which is sponsoring this post), and his first stop was in Norman last weekend to watch Oklahoma lose to Kansas State. In his recap of the game, (and he has plenty of cool pics and videos for you to check out),...

Oklahoma Sooners: Should Landry Jones be benched?

After the Oklahoma Sooners’ 24-19 defeat to Kansas State on Saturday, I got to briefly revel in the awesomeness that is Collin Klein before finding myself in the position of defending OU quarterback Landry Jones. Midwest Sports Fans’ Jerod Morris took himself a road trip to Norman to watch the game and mentioned how some OU fans were calling for four-year starting senior Jones...

Monday presser week five: QB Landry Jones

NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners Illustrated caught up with quarterback Landry Jones to get his thoughts on his struggles the other night and what has to change.

Todd Monken Preparing Both Lunt, Walsh

The odds are that redshirt freshman J.W. Walsh will be Oklahoma State's starting quarterback against Texas on Saturday night. However, Cowboys offensive coordinator Todd Monken and head coach Mike Gundy both said during Monday's media gathering that Wes Lunt is making progress and the true freshman could be ready to face the Longhorns.

Mike Gundy won’t rule out playing quarterback Wes Lunt against Texas

Oklahoma State quarterback Wes Lunt had a pretty good start to his first season replacing Brandon Weeden, opening the season with an 84 – 0 win over Savannah State where he was 11 for 11 for 129 yards. He then went 37 – 60 for 436 yards in a loss on the road to Arizona. While that loss was devastating to Oklahoma State, the promise Lunt showed in the game was very positive. In...

Oklahoma State a mystery before Big 12 play

Monday, when Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy decided to give out information, a bit of insight and some knowledge about the unknown, things just got more confusing. Saturday, when Texas comes to Stillwater, Okla., to take on Oklahoma State, maybe we'll finally learn something about the Cowboys, because so far, there have been few, if any answers. But the bad news is, the situation...

College football road trip week one recap

The first leg in my four-week college football road trip sponsored by La Quinta featured a lot of history. Unfortunately for the 2012 Oklahoma Sooners and their fans, the history that was made on Saturday night was of the ignominious kind as the 6th-ranked Sooners lost 24-19 to the 15th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats. How rare was Oklahoma’s whimper of a performance in front of...

Texas-Oklahoma St. Preview

The Texas Longhorns last won the Big 12 in 2009. Since then, they have done a whole lot of losing. Texas had losing records in Big 12 play the last two seasons, a trend the No. 12 Longhorns (3-0) hope to reverse starting Saturday night in their conference opener at defending champion Oklahoma State (2-1). A win in rowdy Stillwater would be a big step toward showing they are indeed...

David Ash surprises, Bob Stoops on the ropes, Steele Jantz seeks redemption, and...Trace Atkins?

Dancing in the Ruins - (SWRT's regular look at the new Big XII Conference that's rising out of the ruins of the old one.) Kick Ash. Bruce Feldman named Texas starting quarterback David Ash as one of " the most pleasant surprises thus far in the college football season." (CBS Sports) Texas is underrated. Because Trey Scott said so. (The...

Texas to face tougher tests in Big 12 play

Mack Brown will try to convince his players they should be afraid of Oklahoma State, and he will try to do it by reminding them that beating Ole Miss is not the same as beating Oklahoma State. "We've had better personnel than the three teams we've played," he said. The implication is that this will no longer be the case. It might make for timely coaching rhetoric...

By the Numbers: Joe Bergeron

Longhorn Digest took a look at every carry by Texas running back Joe Bergeron through the season's first three games, splitting them up by down and distance, as well as by quarter, while gauging for success rate and explosive plays.

OSU coach Gundy won't rule out Lunt against Texas

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy believes injured quarterback Wes Lunt could return to practice by the end of this week, although he is still uncertain whether he'll be able to play Saturday night against No. 12 Texas. Gundy said Monday that he'd be surprised if Lunt is on the field when the Cowboys (2-1) resume practice Tuesday. Lunt was hurt against Louisiana-Lafayette...

Landey Jones, Geno Smith and Casey Pachall, Wes Lunt, and more.

Dancing in the Ruins We're in the same boat on the same sea, and we're sailing south on the same breeze. After Oklahoma's loss to Kansas State on Saturday, the Sooners find themselves in the same position as USC with dwindling chances of winning a BCS title this season. (Dr. Saturday) My bad. Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones takes the blame for the Sooners...

DC's Week 5 Picks

THE PICKS Ole Miss Rebels at #1 Alabama Crimson Tide Brendan’s Pick: Barring an unprecedented slip up or collapse it's pretty obvious Alabama isn't losing a game this season, unless LSU manages to top them at home, but this might be their biggest mismatch of the season. Texas had their way with the Rebels' defense and the Tide will do the same. Expect...
