Mandatory Credit: Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports The win over West Virginia was huge for the Longhorns, but it didn’t come without a cost.  On Sunday it was announced that starting tailback Johnathan Gray and defensive tackle Chris Whaley will both miss the rest of the 2013 season due to injuries sustained during the game.  Whaley left in the first quarter after suffering  a knee injury and had to be carted off the field.  Early in the 3rd quarter, Johnathan Gray caught a short pass from Case McCoy and came down lame, quickly falling to the ground untouched and in pain.  He left the game immediately after suffering what we now know was an injury to his right achilles. The injuries to Brown and Whaley are, understandably, huge blows to a Texas team that is fighting every week to keep the dream of a Big...

Texas Longhorns win in OT but lose RB Johnathan Gray and DL Chris Whaley for season

The Texas Longhorns won in overtime at West Virginia Saturday night 47-40, but lost two starters for the season. Sophomore running back Johnathan Gray suffered a torn achilles tendon that will require surgery. Gray had 159 rushes for 780 yds. and four touchdowns for the year. He had been on pace to become the first Longhorn running back to gain over 1000 yds. since Jamaal Charles...

Injured Longhorns provided leadership boost

The Texas Longhorns are starting to put together a who's who list of injured players. And as much as the Longhorns (7-2, 6-0 in Big 12) miss what the injured players have given Texas on the field, the intangibles the injured players provide has also been tough to replace. That's especially the case with the newest Longhorns lost for the season running back Johnathan Gray...

Longhorns Outscore Mountaineers 47-40

Texas rolled into Morgantown ready to dismantle a West Virginia team that was 4-5 on the season.  However they got more than they bargained for as the Mountaineers blocked a punt for a safety on the Longhorns first drive.  From that point on, the Longhorns were under fire from an active WV defense that was goaded on by a rowdy crowd. WV lost starting quarterback Clint Trickett...

Injuries crop up for No. 23 Texas

Johnathan Gray asked a fateful question before his team's last game. ''What does it feel like to tear an Achilles?'' Gray asked one of the trainers. ''Is it like somebody kicked you or is it like a knife?'' Gray got the answer to his question in a painful way when he caught a short pass from Case McCoy early in the third quarter of the Longhorns...

Texas loses starters Chris Whaley, Johnathan Gray for year with injuries

In a tough blow to Texas' Big 12 title hopes, the Longhorns lost senior DT Chris Whaley and leading rusher Johnathan Gray for the season with injuries.

Big 12 power poll: week eleven

1. (-) Baylor (8-0): Baylor passed its first major test of the season with flying coloring. The dominating victory over the Sooners didn't come without a cost, however. The Bears lost Tevin Reese for the foreseeable future and Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin are currently nursing injuries, as well. But this isn't the Baylor of old with the defense continuing to perform...

Texas Pulls Out Overtime Win

Texas overcame a 10-point second-half deficit at West Virginia Saturday night, pulling out a 47-40 overtime win when Steve Edmond intercepted Paul Millard's fourth-down pass.

The Couches Are Safe: Texas beats West Virginia

It was another off night for the Texas against an opponent they should have dominated, but in the end the Longhorns prevailed in Morgantown 47-40 in OT Saturday night. The game started off in disastrous fashion as an Anthony Fera punt on the first drive was blocked for a safety. The Mountaineers then drove 42 yards in six plays to go up 9-0 on the back of Charles Sims two yard touchdown...

Don't Forget The Offensive Line

There will be some adjustments taking place this week on the defensive line for the Texas Longhorns as former starter Malcolm Brown (the defensive tackle) jumps in at the nose position. Brown's move is necessary after Chris Whaley was lost for the season in last Saturday's 47-40 overtime win over West Virginia. It will be an adjustment although Brown has nine starts in his career.

The Morning After: And Another One Bites……….Wait, What?

Photo credit: Evan Habeeb/Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports I was ready. I was ready to lay into Mack Brown. I was ready to lay into the defense for giving up 40 points. I was ready to start throwing in the towel, but as “Mack on a Pay phone” says: “Give the Longhorns credit.” In a game where the Texas could have easily found a way to lose, they found a way to win. I will...

Texas loses running back Jonathan Gray for rest of season

I interviewed Jonathan Gray last year as he accepted the award for the Gatorade High School Player of the Year. He was a great kid and based on his high school career Texas fans had every reason to be excited. He exploded this year in his sophomore season with 790 yards and a 4.9 YPC average. His running helped Mack Brown and Texas salvage a season that looked like a potential disaster...

Texas Head Coach Mack Brown met with the media at his usual Monday press conference ahead of this weeks game against Oklahoma State.
