gocards.com Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is regarded as one of that nation’s best at his position, with many analysts suggesting he’ll likely go as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s also being billed as one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy this upcoming season. But that doesn’t mean he wants his school to push for it. Bridgewater recently sat down his coaching staff and told them that he’d prefer that the school not run a Heisman campaign. Sports information director Rocco Gasparro told WDRB: “He went to the coaches not wanting a Heisman-type campaign,” Gasparro said. “He wanted it to be about team and if we won as a team individual recognition would come anyway. It says a lot about the character of Teddy, I think, and how much his team means to him.” Bridgewater himself added that the goal is the national championship, not the Heisman. “I don’t pay attention to it. I’m all about this team,” Bridgewater said. “I’m all about the team having success. I’m all about my teammates becoming better players. The Heisman isn’t a goal of mine. A team effort, a national championship, a BCS game, those are our goals.” It’s certainly admirable that Bridgewater cares more about the team’s goals than his own. The only issue? Louisville’s schedule is so weak this year that the Cardinals could easily go undefeated and still not reach the BCS National Championship Game.
