We were in the depths of a depression, Alcoholics Anonymous didn’t exist, basketball had yet to be played at the Olympics, and LSU did not play a conference night game. That was 1935. For the first time since FDR was our president, LSU will not be playing a game at night against a conference opponent.

Fans in Baton Rouge are ticked that a tradition will not be carried on this season, and the reasoning they are being given from AD Joe Avela is success:

“With success comes a price, and in this case the price is afternoon kickoffs instead of night football,” Alleva said. “CBS will always take the game it deems to be the most interesting, and that will often involve teams that are playing at the highest level. LSU is ranked No. 1 in the BCS standings at this moment, and that puts Tiger Stadium in the crosshairs of any TV network.”

Not only is playing at night in Tiger Stadium an experience, it is a formula for success, especially in the Les Miles era. Overall, the team has a career record 220-60-4 in home night games, including 30-2 under the Hat at home.
